Installing Trunk spoiler with 3M tape or Urethane Adhesive?

Hello, Everyone

I just bought a roof spoiler and trunk spoiler and painted already for my 2004 E500 .I want to installed it this weekend and need a few tips..Does anyone used 3m double side tape or Urethane Adhesive or both the roof spoiler and trunk spoiler ? and what is the brand for the Urethane adhesive?

Thanks!

3M tape is the way to go, forget about the epoxy adhesives. I have installed trunk spoilers and front chin spoilers this way, and can't be more happy about the outcome.

3M as well. That's what I did...had no issues. Just make sure you clean well before putting it on. You don't want dust or any other garbage to be under there.

3M is great, it will hold, but you have to do a good prep work:

1- Clean the area with soapy water, remove all dirt, dust and sap. (Car and Spoiler).
2- Thoroughly clean the area with isopropyl alcohol. (Essential do not skip, Car and Spoiler).
3- Spray some adhesion promoter (Optional but recommended, you can find it next to the 3M tape at you local auto shop!, Car and Spoiler).
4- Apply the 3M tape to the spoiler (Do not press super hard).
5- Remove the first 3-4 inches of protective backing from each ends of the 3M tape, tape the backing on top of the spoiler.
6- Line up the spoiler without touching the trunk, then install it.
7- Pull the protective backing from under the spoiler.
8- Press hard (HARDER), all across the length of the spoiler.
9- Let it rest for few hours.

Had my auto body shop install my spoiler. Only thing I would add to the list above is the following...

1. Buy some painter's tape. The kind that is used to line up the paint lines that can easily be removed. Place the spoiler on the trunk and line it up. Then use the painters tape to mask off the line between the spoiler and the spot where it is being installed. That way when you install the spoiler, you have a guide as to where the spoiler should be fitted without having to guess at the spot.

I just purchased the "Super Strength Molding Tape-03616" from Autozone. It's 7/8" by 180". I seriously doubt I'll be using all of it.
