My car ( had it just over a week) just died coming into work, lost power then it stalled. I managed to park it, but when you crank it, it just turns over. My car has had the fuel sender replaced ( looking at dealer records), I assume its the CPS ? One thing, I thought if you turned the ignition key to position 2 (just before start) the wanring lights should go out like check engine, eps etc... but when I go to position 2 they all stay on.

I could probably DIY but don't have time today and don't want to leave my car overnight, so going to have to tow it to my mechanic, he's reasonable but obviously more than doing it myself, not sure I have the specific torx size either, but I bought some of a Audi so may have

left if for about an hour and a half and tried again and it doesn't start, it cranks and tries to start but doesn't catch. So I'm guessing it could be fuel sender and not just crank position sensor? on my 02 E55 when the CPS went out, you could start it when it was cold.

Pulled codes, no error code, pulled the fuel pump, no gas... Even thought the dash was reading 1/2 full. Guess it a sending unit, can you buy them separately, looks like the passenger side one was already done since the damn gasket is kinked...

put some fuel in, car still didn't start, test the fuel pumps, the one behind the drivers seat doesn't run... part appears to be $550!

The two pumps in the tank look good, the "auxilary" one inline is bad, not sure what its called, parts guy said it was a common failure. Also replacing the seals on the main pumps as whoever did the recall work kinked them both. Replaced the crank sensor "since we where in there", and doing a super charger belt change ( its frayed on the edge), and maybe a tranny flush. Lets hope she starts...

Got the pump replaced, flushed tranny and filters, replaced sc belt, and cps, hopefully she'll be good for a bit now.

Check the Camshaft position sensor. Sounds like the ECU is having a hard time syncing crank and cam position which in turn causes an extended cranking time.

It was actually the pump that sits on the left after the main pumps.. I can't remember what they called is, "sender" or something, but is an inline pump...

I replaced the CPS anyway for "insurance."....

Hello, today i will perform a test on the 2 fuel pumps by connecting 12v straight to the connector of fuel pump and have question to your experinces.

First off i knows + and -.

1. Which connectoe is fuel pump wire?
2. and which terminals?
3. when the key is in the "ON" position does the fuel pump suppose to have sound or prime?

Please advise me.

Man I I have the same problem now just like you Guys. Except my E55 is MUCH healthyier since my problem happend yesterday and its Feb of 2014. I know why it's happening but I don't know how to fix the problem that fuel sender unit is worth looking into. I replaced both fuel pumps 3 years ago at the dealer so ik it can't be the pumps and I have no check engine light

my e55 is just having the same starting problem now.

it crank, but not start. i always need to try 5 to 6 times to make the engine start.

we changed 2 pumps under the rear seats, and we changed a new FPR under the hood. but it still having the same problem.

we sure it is not the crankshaft position sensor problem, as we dont find any code.

right now, we test the fuel pump wire, we find there have no electricity signal to the fuel pump, thats why the engine not start probably.

but we dont know how to fix....any idea?

it is so sad that i am going to order a weistec s/c kit.....but i have fix this problem before buying this kit......

Check the fuel relay.

This is not true. CPS is fraction cost of what you have been replacing.

fuse and relay all in good condition. we are exhausted, sometime it start normally without any problem...sometimes it just crank..and no start...weird!

Have you changed the CPS? If it isn't the CPS I am not sure what it would be. I would get a diagnostic done. I don't think a bad CPS would give you any codes.

i bought a new cps, but i am not able to replace it. my hand is big...

i sent my car to workshop, and asked they do it. may do it today.

but the workshop insists says it is not related to cps. because i dont have code, and car would not shut down at overheat, it always have start problem in cold start.....

we putted the new cps, but problem is same. i can not start the engine as well. it crank, but no fuel sending to the engine.

actually, the problem we sure is no voltage to the fuel pump. but we dont know why.

going to search the sam module information now. where can get a new sam online? any idea?

finally my car is all right now.

i go back to dealer, and found out my new installed fuel pump have problem. that's why the car is not start probably.

how come a new pump still has problem!! it is so unlucky to me....

anyway, i am happy now. car pull very hard with new fuel pump!
