Exclamation Dealer asking $26k over sticker on an 03 E55 w/500+ miles

You guys will never belive this. Fletcher Jones in Chicago (aka Mercedes of Chicago) has a Silver 03 E55 that they sold to a customer at sticker and then bought it back for sticker on an SL55 trade. It has 500+ miles on it. It has Charcoal Interior, Ventilated Seats, Power Rear Sunshade, CD Changer, V60 Phone, E1 Package, and Drive Dynamic Seats. This car's original sticker was $83,805. Now these nuts want $109,900 for this car usedhttp://forums.mbworld.org/forums/newthread.php?s=&action=newthread&forumid=46# If these guys can find a big enough sucker to pay this price, that fool deserves to get raped by the dealer.

If I were a dealer, I suppose I'd throw my line out in the water for a couple weeks and see if I could get a bite from some frivolously inclined soul. If someone is foolish enough to bite on that kind of ridiculous price that is his problem and kudos to the dealer in my book.

Consumers must do their part to control prices in the marketplace.
If no one buys over MSRP, dealers stop asking and drop their prices.

I went to see that E55...spoke to a salesman that asked if he could help me. I told him I'm interested in an E55, but I'm not the guy that will pay 109 for one. He said, "What will you pay?" I said, sticker. He said, we could order one for you, but it will take 18 mos. I guess that's how you get someone to pay 109 for an E55. Tell them the wait is 18 mos.

There is no need to pay $109K OR wait 18 months, believe me.
That was a simple sales tactic, my friend.
If you want a new E55 at or close to MSRP and will wait 3-6 months you can find them without difficulty.

It's just wild they can approach you like that, with a straight face, and blatantly lie to you and try to cheat you of 10s of thousands of dollars. Oh well...Try to sell at what the market will bear seems to be their motto. Can't blame them, they're in the business to make money.

I was at the dealer where I got my E500 (temp car) and watched as an employee stuck a 15k over sticker on an E55 black/charcoal that had just come in. It sold that weekend!!! full pop!

Mb, you have an E500 with the AMG style IV wheels, huh? Could you possibly post a picture? I'd like to see what that looks like having only seen an E500 with Amg bodywork and IV wheels, but not the stock body E500 with IV wheels.

Very tight E-Class...

As for the $20k markup...I don't understand who can be this frivalous...whether it be $20k over sticker for an e55 or $10k over sticker for an EVOVIII...

It just adds to the sentiment that dealers are, by and large, parasites.

hey mbprince the car looks great. the black looks awesome. when you get your e55 , gonna get a black one again? i couldnt help but notice i think you have michelin pilot sports not the a/s version. the sidewall and tread on the edge looks like the non a/s. hopefully you bought them knowing that those arent all season. the a/s isn't produced in the 2653518.

Thumbs up

amgrocket, you are 100% right. the tires are sport not a/s. I changed my sig!! I had pasted that from somewhere and didn't notice the mistake. Anyway here in So Cal the sport is perfect as any time we go skiing, camping - we take the suburban (dvd/vhs/playstation2 - for the kids). And yes, when I order the E55 it will be black as well. Heck, most of my friends won't even know I got a new car!!! I see you are waiting as well for your E55. Now I'm wondering if I should wait for the 7G as well (may be out late '04 or '05 MY). What do you think?? mp

yeah i hear you about your friends or others not knowing you got a new car. i have a silver c32 and i think most will not notice i got a new car unless i get a different color (black). some would ask does that matter? ... i say yeah it matters somewhat but i also like black when its clean. if you want to wait for the 7G tranny it probably will not be available/if ever until atleast 2005 model year. if thats cool with you then you should wait.. but the e500 is a nice car.. the e55 is a NICER car. im waiting for an 04 and passed up an 03 because im still content with my c32. btw the pilot sports are a much better performance tire than the sport a/s is.

don't know if I'll wait for the 7G. gonna wait a little while just to see what's shakin'. But to be honest, an E55 with 469hp really doesn't need 7 speeds!!!

I read that AMG models will not be getting the new 7-speed auto tranny.

benggolf,
Rennteam translated a german article and wrote the following:
-----------------
It actually says that the high torque version will be available for the V12 and the Maybach. The supercharged V8 aren't mentioned.

If this helps: today I heard the rumor that AMG introduces the new 7-speed auto tranny with the "new" engine generation (4valve supercharged V8) due around 2005.
Actually I really don't know if the high torque engines need a 7-speed auto but a few years ago, people probably weren't even thinking about 5-speed auto trannies.

I agree, the E55 will not see the 7G for the 2004 MY. mp
