E55 Top Speed

I know that not many people care about top speed but I saw the G Power M5 do over 359km/h and I'm just wondering if the E55 can do that with the same HP or more and alot more torque. I know 200mph is nothing to the E55 but I know the 5 spd doesn't exactly help but just got me thinking....

Mine was removed with tune. He's asking about gear limited top speed I believe.

well we know they can reach 191 in about 1.5miles... so 200 would be doable given long enuf track... but thats not easy to find.

Gearing is good for around 225 with stock diff which I think is somewhat hopefull.

SLR's hit 217-220 ish , so ~360km/h ~(224mph) for the M5 is no mean feat.

I dont think an E55 would see that mark, no matter how long the road.

I think I read somewhere that our gearing will only let us hit 205ish I can try to find it. I could be wrong.

I think it would be up around 210ish. At those speeds though I would start to worry about things flying off my car. I've heard of 4th gear dyno pulls easily getting to 200.

Someone who lurks here (and is fairly modded) said they have broken 200mph...

Lets see if they own up to it, and come forward.

Well here's an E55 doing 200mph

...and I said a modified E55 not a stock one like e55amgrocket's car. It has the power and torque so what can the gearing do for it to reach 225mph? ...and I wasn't talking about can you do it in a distance on the public roads I said can the car do it regardless of distance, in this case assuming it has a never ending straight.

If you want forget about the E55 even, let's talk the SLR because the gearbox is the same with the same number of gears but different ratios and tuning etc so can the SLR reach 225mph and again I mean the gearing not the power or the distance of the road.

Top of 4th in that vid that guy is doing about 186. Maybe the guy shifted into 5th on the dyno.

4th goes over 170mph. I hit 182 on GPS on my old setup and it had more left.

Its just math for gearing. I will let you know tomorrow. How high you rev and what size tire plays a role as well. I've hit 192 a few years ago and speeds were still increasing. I'm making more power now but I'd rather have quicker acceleration than super high top speed. Certain parts aren't designed for that and a blow out at those speeds is scary. I will stick to the 1/4 mile, although this isn't the safest thing either loll

exactly... unless you have tires designed to go over 200mph, i would not go there. i know these cars are safe and all, but I value my life too much to try max it out lol

Stage 2 192 on gps and had to let out. I would not recommend doing it or trying and I will never do it again, even with more power now..

first off if you have a 200mph spedo then you are actually doing around 165-170 when it reads 200mph. The speedo isn't linear and I've yet to see on correctly star coded for the non linear speedo. The gearing is 32mph/1000 rpm and at high speed the chances of pulling more than peak power is slim and even then if it could pull 6K rpm that's 192mph to do 225mph you'd have to turn the motor at 7200rpm and that's not going to happen

if you really want to know what speed your doing you need a gps.

Actually I found the MB speedo pretty accurate. Mapped pretty close to my PBox.

How can you compare a dyno speed vs real life speed ? The wind drag is a massive load on the car something a dyno could never replicate... If you trying to work out gearing speed its just math...

I did a post on gearing on an E55 with a 2.65 and 2.82 diff its somewhere out there....

an extract

A 2.65 diff at redline in 5th gives 224 mph
A 2.82 diff at redline in 5th gives 211 mph
A 3.06 dif at redline in 5th gives 194 mph

Thats with 275/30 19's

On 265/30 18's
A 2.65 diff at redline in 5th gives 223 mph, at peak power say 6100 its 209 mph.
A 2.82 diff at 6100 in 5th gives 198 mph.

Either way I dont think you see an E55 breach 210 mph

Just no, honestly you've embarrassed yourself by saying that because you're either implying the speedo has a 30-35mph discrepancy which by the way is always calculated in +/- (I don't think the E55 hits 235mph ) or you're saying the car can't do it which it can and proven mathematically by stevebez and ahmad to be true. It's ridiculous to think a manufacturer like MB would make a speedo that inaccurate. By the way I hope you're suggesting the discrepancy is only up top because good luck explaining to an officer that you were speeding or driving to slow "because the speedo throws off 30mph)

Well actually you embarrassed yourself. Many E55's with 200mph speedos don't read past 80mph correctly with the error getting larger towards the end of the scale. The reason? They still have "Tachometer Symmetrische" selected in the developer Adaptations when it should be "Tachometer Asymmetrishe"

Now I never said it couldn't make 200, I said you're not going to go 225. You need 250MORE HP to go 225 than you do to go 200 and gearing wise you'd have to turn the motor way past power peak

So next time you want to stick your foot in your mouth by all means go for, just understand what's being talked about, and understand all the underlying variables and maths first

No, 200mph on the speedo is 200mph, not 160mph and I never asked about how much HP is needed, the topic was about the GEARING.

No the topic wasn't about gearing. And no 200mph on a speedo is not always 200mph.

with 285/35/18s it has enough gearing to hit 236mph in 5th at 6,750 rpms
