has anyone does this? It looks like just the stick is for sale on Amazon, do you have to buy the tube also?

Anyone have confirmation? Pics? Comparisons to OEM tool?

Searching a bit more shows that the bright red cap in the middle top of the motor is the oil dipstick tube. It just needs a dipstick?
Yeah I wouldn't trust the sensor. Shortly after I bought my car the message came up on my dash in red "Oil - take to workshop" or something like that so I topped her up. Turned out she was overfull and the sensor wasn't reporting correctly because of another issue at the time. In the past we have made up our own dipstick which worked efficiently, if you're keen you can find the measurements online.

The red cap is where the stick is inserted and this is all that's required. Simple!

So what's the final verdict on the oil dipstick to get?

The sensors are very accurate. They work fine until, they go out LoL. Which is common and very cheap to fix. Better then opening hood and getting your hands dirty. I always check oil level on screen.
