It's OFFICIAL, the tranny IS broken........FAWK!!!

Well, you can add me to the Elite group of powerful AMGs that are out of commission.

The code was P220a. We saw that a speed sensor was not working. Checked the fluid level and ordered new conductor plate. We flushed the tranny twice and installed the new conductor plate and plugs. The car still will not go into gear. There are shavings in the tranny fluid as well, Soo.......

If any one has a clue of what could be wrong, please let me know.

Trannies aren't worth diagnosing too much since there is so much labor that goes into them that you may as well just rebuild the whole thing and be done with it. I don't know how handy your are wrenching but get yourself an ATSG service manual and do it yourself. AT trannies aren't rocket science, and no one will do it with the love you will put into it.

+1 Make a long weekend out of it if you have a lift. If you dont, find a friend that does. I'm sure someone out in Florida, since there are a lot of enthusiasts there, would love to tear that down with you for a simple exchange of a 30 pack or 2..

That sucks. I'm kinda scared now because I'm going to be making significantly more power after the rebuild.

If you have any hard metal debris just get another one. The bearings fail and get in the planetary gear sets and destroy the transmission. Just not worth fixing that one. If it is just little flakes then it might be fixable. Call Paramount or Southern Hotrod. Both build really strong transmissions that can take way more than you will be making.

Do the flakes look like this? Aluminium?

If so don't worry about it. It is machining swarf from original build shocking as it may be. Worry about heavy magnetic steel deposits on the magnets.

I have heard nothing but great things about Southern Hotrod in New Orleans and that they build a bullet-proof tranny that can withstand 1,000+ HP.

I blew mine out a couple of years ago. I bought a brand new rebuild from MB. How much you ask? Wholesale is $1450 3 year warrenty, shipped from Germany. Trq converter, $600 only one in the country and was shipped out of Florida. All this no shipping costs. I looked at upgraded transmissions from other companies but had zero warrenty! Hope this helps!

I disagree. You just have to disassemble the transmission COMPLETELY, clean all the parts, and replace what you need to replace. It's usually not a complex thing to do. I've done it a few times before on transmissions that have been utterly destroyed and they were up and running stronger than ever.

V12 transmission FTW! The case is physically bigger to hold more clutch discs!

Hope you get it figured out. Good luck.

So just for future reference, the S65 clutch packs fit right in the 55 tranny? Same year car?

TCU had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Thanks every one! I appreciate all the help and advice!

But I have a trick up my sleeve.

Guess what? My car is still under warranty. And I have a certain MANAGER at the dealership that I deal with. He knows all my mods also. He works hard to get everythhing covered for me. So we are putting everything back on the car to make it seem as stock as we can. Hopefully I can get a whole new tranny and only pay my $50 deductable.

I am curious what exactly is wrong. I had some shavings in my pan when I had a shifting problem making it get stuck in 3rd gear. I am not completely sure but I wonder if some shavings that were in your system is causing a valve to stick that just doesn't allow the car to even go in gear. I am not sure if that is possible or not, but it is pretty easy to take the valve body out and then split it in half and clean it out real good with carb cleaner. It has to be stupid clean or valves will stick.

I suppose if you can some how get a new tranny then you will be good to go, but it could be worth taking the valve body out and taking everything out and cleaning it real real good.
