CLS55 Help

(Posted this is the CLS forum but I think there are more 63's there than anything)

I'm sure similar questions have been asked before but I searched.

I'm looking at a one owner CLS55 with around 40k miles it has all the options from what I can tell including PP. The only things I see on the Carfax maintenance include Valve cover gasket(s) replaced, Drive belt(s) replaced and Drive belt tensioner pulley replaced around 37K. It's currently in for the 40k miles service now.

The car is 1k miles from me and I'm thinking about buying it without seeing it in person. What questions should I ask or what things should I look out for as far as problem areas? It also has about 10 months left on the 3yr extended MB warranty.

1 mile from you and you want to buy it unseen ??? You better go there and check the car inside out. Do a PPI for about $200 (Pre-purchase inspection). Carfax shows clean but you still have to lift the car check if any oil leak and test drive it. Have you tested drive any 55K car ? if not you better try it before purchase it. Plus, if this car still has few months warranty from MB i don't think you will have any issues. How much they are asking ??

oh.... sorry i misread. If still have MB warranty as Marcus stated, whats to worry ??? Make sure its CPO warranty not third party from a small dealer. How much is asking ?? $40K ??

Thanks it's a MB warranty. I want to use this as a DD so I can build my EVO 10. I just want to make sure it's going to be reliable, the price is reasonable.

Does anyone know if the current MB warranty can be extended longer and if not do you have any suggestions for aftermarket warranties?

If the car still have CPO MB warranty, you can actually buy to extend the warranty. However, its stupid because it will cost you $8K from last member post few days ago. They are not cheap to fix but I don't recommend ext warranty if you have a good indy shop. Good luck.

just get a PPI done. It costs any where from 85 to 150

Yes, the extended MB warranty has to be purchased while the car is still under the original factory warranty. Other wise you cannot purchase the MB extended warranty.

Since the car is already on the extended MB warranty, you cannot extend it further. Buy the car, use the warranty and enjoy.

Most ppi places supply you with a pretty detailed report with pictures. Some will actually hook the car up to a scanner and see if the cel was not reset recently and check if all the emission monitors are ready. They also do a alternator and battery test.

review the service records, get a PPI done and get some good pics of the exterior. I bought my CLS sight unseen and had it shipped to me. The only surprise were a few scrapes on the underside of the front bumper. I'm gonna have the bumper repainted. I bought extended warranty for mine and the car has been great. bought it with 45k miles, now at around 55k, starting to mod.
