2 Kills in one day!
Hey guys, I figured I'd post up while the details are fresh in my mind!
First car:2003-2004 Mineral Grey Cobra w/ exhaust at the least
Was headed out to Mexico for a car meet today when I saw a Mineral Grey 2003-2004 Cobra pull on to the highway with an awesome exhaust note. I sped up a little to get side by side with him and we both gave the thumbs up.
I had a feeling something was about to happen so I downshifted to second in sport at 40 and I heard him downshift as well. He honked once to get my attention and then finished the 2nd and 3rd honks and we were off. I immediately put 1 car on him and by the end of the pull about halfway through third had 2-2.5 cars on him. We both gave the wave and honked as he exited to the Mexican grocery store! I've seen him around a couple times at the gym in the area hopefully I can get a few words in with him and find out all of the mods! Great time!
Second car (little more interesting):BRAND NEW STINGRAY(Manual)
On the way home from the meet in Mexico ,but still across the border, I see a BRAND NEW 2014 STINGRAY pull out and slowly pick up speed. Praying to the car gods, we both caught a light 3 cars back. Guy was probably mid-late 50's. He didn't even acknowledge me, probably thinking it was just another 4-door grocery getter, until I was in 2nd at 3500 rpms making a little noise next to him. He shook his head saying no, so naturally I just accelerated to appropriate highway speeds... then I see his lights closing in quick and pull even with me. He gave me a sarcastic, one finger at a time wave... As I was in 3rd still at about 55, he finished the wave and I watched the car lift. I was right on him as he took the hit. I reeled him in and we were door to door quickly. I watched him begin to fall back and we finished around 95 due to Mexican traffic. By the end of the quick little pull, 55-95, the sting ray was put at my fender. It seemed like I was inching him as we were coming to the end of 3rd. A great run! I gave him the emergency lights as I went back to appropriate speeds and he flashed his brights back at me. Wish i could have stopped and talked but he followed me back until my turn. Turns out he lives back in the United States near me! Maybe another run haha.
Note: I watched a manual Sting ray run at the track the same day I did, running the same as me. His buddy was in an automatic convertible running 13.0's. Bad track prep as usual on the track.
Cliffs:2003 Cobra-2 cars from 40-80.
2014 Sting Ray with dealer tags-55-95 1/2 car-1 car.
Both were amazing cars that I'm happy to have gotten a run in with!
Unbelievably proud of my stock E55 for holding it's own against that new vette tonight! Looking forward to modding after the warranty and dragging more modified cars in the "4 door grocery getter"
Thanks for reading guys these long PARAGRAPHS guys!
Wish I could have gotten vids, but both were unplanned quick runs in Mexico!
Thanks!!
Kyle

Great story!
I ended up behind a newer Corvette recently (not sure the exact model) and just had a feeling he was going to run when he got the chance and the road opened up. Put my car into "S2" just in case...we were driving along behind some slow traffic at around 30mph.
Sure enough, a second lane opened up and he drifted to the left to take advantage of it. There was a quick puff of exhaust and the rear end dropped....he was off and running!
I romped it all the way through 2nd and stayed right behind him the whole time. As he pulled back into the slow lane it must have been a real surprise to still see me in his mirror.
I dropped back several car lengths as we cruised.... But sure enough we ran up on some traffic again. The whole process played out a second time (just to show that the 1st time wasn't a fluke).... I'm sure the whole process was a bit of a downer for the Corvette, but since I never get a chance to "play" with nice cars where I live it was fun to see how well an E55 can do against hardcore performance cars.
It was doubly sweet knowing that I've still got a 172mm crank pulley sitting in my garage waiting for an install..... Even more HP/TQ is queued up for the near future, but it wasn't even necessary for this encounter.

It's a great feeling knowing that we can hang with a stock corvette, especially the newer car that people see as the status symbol of the American muscle car! I honestly just wanted to run one a little to see how the car would hold up, I was expecting to maybe have a car or 3/4 a car pulled on me... NOT the other way around haha
Just like you I can't wait to start modding and really put a surprise on their faces!
Thanks for sharing!

I was surprised myself! I think it traps 1-2 mph higher Manufacturer tested.
I was pleasantly surprised as I thought he would pull a .5-1 car on me at that mph. He might have inched on me once we hit 4th, but we didn't take it that high..
I think I would have preferred a 40 roll in 2nd, might have jumped a little more.
I was extremely happy with how the E ran last night though, 70 degrees outside provided for some alright conditions.
Just a good all around night!

Got a chance to talk to the guy that owned the Cobra, was a 2004 DSG. The guy works at my gym and told me he had a 2.8 pulley and exhaust, putting down ~420-430 whp. Just a little idea and update!
