Anybody ever seen or heard of this before?

Looks like it has flaps to direct air through the heat exchanger rather than it likely going around it? Seems like not a silly idea to me.

Or is this just a standard E63 amg grille or something else?

thats a standard CLS grill. The flaps at the end are to cover up the section of the bumper that is painted body color.
