Checking oil with factory tool.....

Getting an "add oil " message and suspect I've got a bad sensor. Got the factory dipstick/measuring tool from my shop, but can't seem to find proper directions to check it. Every search item I enter is about putting a dipsitck in it...can someone point me in the right direction, or a you tube video, or something helpful? Thanks in advance...

Really?

No one knows the recommended level for an e55? Or has the WIS to confirm?

You want to be at or between the 167mm-169mm readings.

15.5 is the minimum.

Thanks guys....

sounds like somewhere between 150 and 160 is enough to confirm if my sensor has failed (which it probably has). Warm? Cold? Both?

Thanks again for the replies...

Use the guide attached. Measurements should be taken warm. See steps below.

The vehicle must be horizontal for at least 5 minutes with an engine which is switched off and at operating temperature. Otherwise measurement errors can occur.

1 Remove stop plug from oil dipstick guide tube.
2 Insert dipstick into oil dipstick guide tube until the tip appears in the engine oil pan.
Wait for at least 3 seconds before pulling it out.

The dipstick must be pushed and guided according to the form of the oil dipstick guide tube. Do not kink dipstick in the process.

The collar of the dipstick grip end must not touch the oil dipstick guide tube.
