Considering High Mileage 2005 E55

Just joined forum today; considering purchasing a 2005 one owner E55 with 102K miles, asking price is $16500. What should I be concerned about? Read a lot about maintenance costs and a little intimidated about prospect of maintaining an E55 but believe it is worth it regardless. Any insights on living with a high mileage E55 is welcomed?

Sold - 05' E55
Go take a look at it. If its a one owner with a good maintenance history, you should be fine.
I know when I went looking for an e55 I looked at a few. Some people beat the crap out of them with minimal maintenance, and other people treat their cars like a "baby"..
Just make sure you have additional money for future repairs, and maintenance.

that ppi be very helpful...

if you are not into maintaining your own car, then that ppi would be very helpful and worthwhile. past experiences, they do a great job of breaking everything down and giving you an idea about the car. may also be able to get you a better deal. possible areas of concern: fuel pump/sender unit replaced? airmatics replaced? valve cover oil leak? up to date maintenance history? brakes/rotors last done? any srs lights/codes? batteries: front and rear, last replaced? good luck and keep looking around, compare and contrast not only the e55, but also like previous post, cls55 too. good luck however you decide. comparing everything on the market today will allow you to compare apples to apples and apples to oranges too. there is a 2004 e55 very well maintained by a member here on the forum that should be of interest too. just look around and check out ebay, autotrader.... LOOK AT EVERYTHING in the market right now!!! have a great weekend and enjoy your search!

100K on these cars is not really a big deal IF the car has been maintained. If the car has been neglected, it can be a very big deal.

What a lot of new buyers don't seem to get (at first) is that the $16K car they bought has maintenance requirements of a $100K car
General maintenance on things that are cheap on most cars are not cheap on these.

Fuel Pumps, shocks... these things can add up quickly.

The good news: The drive-train is VERY solid on these cars. That is not probably where you want to worry. Its the little stuff

Yep...Mine has 143k and every so often it reminds me of all the little things to be replaced. It's funny but the roughly $50 - $100 electronic parts are what kicks your *** each time. Outside of those instances, I love it and the way it drives!

LOL..... 102k is considering LOW miles. Its a 10 yr old car which would mean 10k miles a year which is below average

Yes! I was about to say! With some 2003s approaching their 12th birthdays, 100k miles is nothing when you consider the aver person (in the US anyhow) drives 10k-15k miles per year!

I realize those figures change a little when it comes to perfromance automobiles, but one must also understand that AMGs are designed have daily-driver reliability with near-supercar performance!
