Japanese E63 headlight - changing the beam direction

Hi guys,

Has anybody already heard of the possibility to change the direction of the beam on a japanese W211. I did quite some search, found a few topics related to that indicating that there is a lever within the headlight that allows you to change the direction of the beam (to flatten it actually). I did spend quite some time trying to see or feel that lever in the headlight compartment, with lamps, with a small mirror, but without any success.

So before I dismantel my front bumper, is there anybody that already did it or would have a documentation that shows how to do it ?

my car is a 2007 W211 equipped with the Active Curve Light (option 616).

With DAS you can do zero point adjustment

Is the vehicle LHD or RHD? The cutoff shield in the headlight must be swapped out in order to make the low beam "flat"

LHD, for for japanese traffic, so must be adjusted for continental driving

What do you mean by swapped ?

I have a few pictures of my lights :

Overall view of my right side light

Right side of the right light

Left side

And the last one, the high beam. Does it need to be rotated as well ?

Are you wanting to drive on roads that are not oriented to left hand drive vehicles? I'm having difficulty understanding what you're trying to accomplish by changing the direction of the beam. are you referring to the cut off of the beam pattern or how they are aimed on the road?

The car comes from Japan where most people have RHD cars to drive on the left side of the road. I leave in France where we (like in the US) drive on the right side of the road. Our beams are oriented to the right side of the road while in Japan they aim on the left side. Driving a japanese car on french roads means I'm blinding the oncoming traffic. I need to have that changed.

Illustration: My car is currently like this

it needs to be like that

Worst case, I need to have it flat. I red here and there that it is possible to adjust the bi-xenon headlight of a w211 (active curve lights), but I can't figure out how.

There is no way to change the angle through software. You will need to either order headlights from the proper region or swap the cutoff shield in the projector. The cutoff shield is a thin metal plate that dictates the low beam orientation. You can remove it and sand it flat.

Just got my E63 back from the Merc dealer here in Germany for the regular service. I asked for the beam direction to be changed...

They told me the beam has been changed, so I asked how and they said this was done through the diagnostic / computer tool.

Still need to check if that really the case.

I am not sure how software can change the orientation of a projectors internals since they are metal...Glad to hear you got it sorted out. Have you confirmed the orientation has been reversed?

I just checked and the beam is now flat which is sufficient for continental driving.
