Next Step SOUND!

As the next step in my cars evolution Im looking at sound. I live in an area thats very strict so Id like something that remains relatively quiet at low rpm's but comes alive at wot.

My garage suggested a fabtech CAI *I love a good SP whine*, resonator delete and MBH mid section no x. Ive heard soso things about fabtech...

Would love your opinions!

Thanks for helping a noob out

I would suggest another cold air intake.

I would keep factory mufflers, delete secondary cats and primary cats. With a set of headers it will sound awesome at WOT and be quiet cruising. Why no X pipe? What kind of crossover are you going to use.

I have kleemann headers, custom X, cats fell off & factory mufflers. Love the sound! I'll be honest, didn't like the sound untill I did the X. The factory crossover sounded like a tug boat cruising and good at WOT. I have to take a video of it now that I have the X And post a before and after. It sounds much raspier and exotic with the X.

I've heard that people who take out secondary cats suffer from "drone"

and smell which eventually creeps up into the cabin.

With a luxury car and if you go on hwy driving -you'd get sick of it real quick.

The CAI will bring out the whine in your car and still be dead quiet without any load. My car actually has the same mods that you listed above plus shorty plm headers. Sounds like this at WOT:

I respectfully disagree.

I removed the secondary cats (kept the primaries and the H pipe and the stock resonator in the stock location).
There is no drone at all.

Actually, removing the resonator is what introduce some drone.

As for the smell you have the remove both Primaries and Secondary cats to suffer from it.

S/C whine is amazing with CAI! Love it. As far as exhaust goes - longtube headers and cat delete. Stock pipe and mufflers are perfect and you should not touch them. Under WOT you will hear that V8 roar and daily driving will be quiet as a mouse.

People have removed the resonators only and have no drone.

Due to that- I was thinking of doing the same too lol -just taking out Res for a louder presence at WOT whilst being

able to avoid the drone.

Well anyhow -I guess i'll just stay away from taking off anything lol unless I get C63 mufflers at a bargain lol

Exactly what I was about to say, I haven't noticed any drone - unless it was flying above and then I'd outrun it anyway...

Having said that though probably not a lot of point in pulling the res without headers installed.

Needswing CAI ordered. 1100,00 CDN with install. Should be landing next week.

Still waiting on my quote regarding the mid pipe + xpipe. What is the take on MBH, great headers? what about the rest.

I was suggested that instead of doing mid pipe + xpipe going the kleemann headers route would be better. Increased sound, more power.

I was quoted a 6 hour job for the header install. Does that seem about right?

Will I have to tune the car immediately or will they be able to remove codes with no tune?

Anything I should be looking out for before pulling the trigger on headers?

thanks, am.
