I filled up today (full tank) and now my car absolutely reeks of gasoline. This is the first time I have filled it all the way up in a few months now.

I guess I could call the dealer Friday and see what they say. I already pulled the back seats and could not see any leakage. But the smell is certainly there. I'll post up what they say about the "smell".

I always perform a full fill-up on my 55, I've never "partially" filled up the fuel tanks.. That being said, after roughly 8 years of ownership, I guess I can say that I've been lucky to have never experienced this problem. I always knew that it could arise at any moment, so this offers peace of mind should that happen.

For all parties involved to help make this happen: Thank You!

Just sent a message of to MB New Zealand containing this pdf to see what they say. I dont like my chances as its a Japanese import and I have already done the JB weld repair... thing is is my tank was slightly distorted on the screw on cap thing due to the first replacement set where they probably didnt notice it or ignored it.... I think I can repair this myself but would love to just get MB to replace the whole lot so I get new pumps. They were last replaced in 2008.

Even if it doesnt cover World Wide cars its a great thing that people over there have atleast got the ball moving. Everybody overseas should start asking questons about this now aswell to put some pressure on these guys!

Settled faster than I had expected. Pump and filter module costs to MB could easily be less than $100. Further, I doubt many fuel tanks will need to be replaced. I will see if this campaign will apply to European versions . . . I suspect not.

Yes but the labour has to be paid to the individual dealerships plus the reimbursements will be more than 100$

They must have been really scared or they could have said no reimbursements but offer 5k off on any new Mercedes the customer wants.

great news! my car has been smelling like fuel everytime i've been filling up since i picked her up.

generally these types of releases are for USA only. unless the manufacturer has released an international statement.

This case was brought by a few who hired attorneys to MBZ New Jersey, with the complaint that fumes in cabin with cigarette smoking could cause possible safety concerns.

Lets get a few things straight...
MB is not going to replace the filter/sender units or tanks unless they are leaking or the wires are melted.

Both sides of the sender/pumps should be replaced as regular maintenance every five years or 60K miles, wether they are leaking or not. The filters get clogged and can cause all kinds of problems. This has been verified many times on cars that were running dangerously lean on the dyno, had the units swaped, and the cars ran perfect.

Also the reimbursements should be interesting for those that either did it themselves, or had an Indy do it. If you had the dealer do it because the gas smell was the issue, I am sure getting paid back won't be a problem.....the rest of us could be in for a fight to get reimbursed for previous work.

Good luck to all!!!

You are right on the maintenance side however I can see guys putting a full tank every time now and it will eventually leak. It's a bad design

No , the lawsuit was in the USA and was settled in a US court, MBUSA made the settlement, also the investigation was done by a USA government body. Btw it seems this settlement was done back in September but only made public December, so obviously the dealerships have known about this for a while.

What info are you looking for?

If you have leaking senders/pumps or tank they will replace and if you paid for the replacements then they will reimburse as long as it was done at a dealer or comparable mechanic.

Wait til after January 1st 2015, usually these things go into the system in the new year when it gets released this late in the year

Hmmm..I wonder if you can still receive a letter from MB regarding the recall even though you got your car from a used car dealership.

Good work Greg and all those who helped. Now all we need to do is figure out how to start the process for a reimbursement. I had mine replaced at M-Power in Houston.

It's not a recall. A recall would be fixing a defective part with an upgraded part, this is not the case. It will be the same crappy design.

This is a 15 year warranty with unlimited mileage for pumps, senders and tank. So if at any time the senders leak or tank leaks or gas smell happens they will replace the part at no charge, no matter if you are the 1st or 5th owner of the car

Denroll you would have to contact MBUSA and see if they would reimburse since it was not done at a dealer. They may offer partial refund since it was at an indy. Call them up on Monday and check. Have all receipts ready to send them of course.

The class action lawsuit, assuming that is what you are referring to, has not been settled.

This was a lawsuit filed in NY, it has been settled, there are oher lawsuits like one in Georgia but are for the same issues, MBUSA has signed it with nhtsa. What else is there to sue them for unless there are injuries
