Maybe this has been posted before, but I couldn't find it when I searched for it.
A simple DYI on YouTube for replacing the rear 3rd brake light--great tip about using a plastic wedge to tap the sliders off...
I researched this when considering adding a smoked LED 3rd brake light assembly to an W211 E63...

I have found several on eBay -- $89 or so, discounted from $100+.

I'm looking at a Flint Gray 63, so the darker color will help the smoke tail light blend in more IMO than on a white or silver car. Would look great on your black 63 IMO.
