Just bought an 03' E55 AMG

So I found this nice 2003 E55 AMG in Hickory, North Carolina from a dealership called Cosmo Motors. I had a Buddy drive me from Cocoa, Fl where I live to this dealership to purchase this car. I've been looking at these cars for quite some time and finally pulled the trigger on this one since it looked great inside and out. I get there, test drive it, look over and test everything out. everything seems fine. I sign the papers and i'm off back to florida. I make it about half way back and the engine just shuts off. I pop the hood, look for anything out of the ordinary, about 5 or so minutes pass, I close everything up and try to start it and it starts right up, now throwing a check engine light. I head down the road and about 10-15 minutes later it does it again. I let it sit for awhile then it starts back up and I head down the road again. about 10 minutes later it does it again except for this time no matter how long it sits it wont start back up. it was Saturday evening, I called my insurance and had them tow it to the nearest firestone (the only place that was open sunday) and stayed in a hotel for the night. firestone looks at it and its conclusion is that the fuel pump is dead. the codes that it was throwing are P0301, PO304, PO303, PO134, PO154, PO300. Long story short they could not get ahold of a fuel pump and if they could it was going to cost $1,010.00. So I rented a uhaul car hauler trailer and my buddy pulled it with his truck back to my house. I checked the fuel pump fuse and relay, both of which are good the next day once I got it home. So I ordered a fuel pump from partsgeek and used a $15 coupon I found online and it cost me $365 for the Airtex Fuel pump Part Number: 23961-07165124. Would I need an adapter to use this fuel pump, because I called the dealership and the one they were going to sell me needed an adapter, but they wanted $620. I'm just really stressed out about this car, any information or guidance would be greatly appreciative. the fuel pump seems easy to get to I removed the back seat and everything. looks like it is on the passenger side next to the filler cap.

1.Please please please RETURN that fuel pump immediately!
2.Go to the nearest Mercedes dealership and buy a new cranshaft postion sensor! Buy Original sensor from the dealer! NOT Autozone/Advance/PepBoys junk!
3.Install it and enjoy the car!!!

does the CPS cut off fuel to the car? Because it runs fine as long as you keep spraying throttle body cleaner in it.

Get a fuel pressure reading off the fuel rail.
You have no less than 1000 posts to search through here concerning fuel pumps.

The description of your problem is 100% classic CPS, I would change it first.

Here to get you started is a thread that may help.

if the fuel pump was working wouldn't you hear it prime when you turn the key? i'll head down to the parts store and pick up a cps. Mercedes dealership is closed and wont open until Monday.

Dude there are so many things that turn on with key in on position, that you will not hear the fuel pump prime. Best of luck sounds like cps

These cars do not like aftermarket CPS. Bosch/OEM is the only way. The fuel pumps are submerged in gas, under the car, underneath a access panel that is insulated and then under a 6" foam pad covered in leather. You won't here the fuel pumps prime

Good luck and welcome to the dark side

I have the rear seat cushion removed, the foam pad pulled away, the access panels removed on both sides, I put my ear to the fuel pump side and not a single noise or whisper coming from it when the key is turned.

I know what you mean about aftermarket parts. I use to own a Crossfire SRT-6 and the cps went out on it, replaced it with an aftermarket part, still wouldn't start, replaced it with the factory part and it started right up.

This place is a joke.
Disconnect the fuel pump wiring connector (passenger side) and see if the connector is burned or melted.

Connector looks fine. It's not burned or melted or anything.

I'm having a hard time trying to locate the CBS.
Cheap fix yes, easy? Doesn't seem like it. The one in my srt6 crossfire was wayyy easier.

Ordered the Bosch cps on Amazon since no one has it. Taking back the junk intermotor cps to advance. Advance cost me $55,the Bosch was $40 with 1 day shipping. So we will try this again tomorrow. Please let this be the problem so I can return the fuel pump....

Major bummer, to go all out of your way to find a car, and then have this happen. Have you contacted the dealer? I'm no lawyer, but you may have recourse. (Even if not, the dealer may decide to do the right thing.)

I'd get a cheapy fuel pressure gauge, and just measure what is going on in your fuel system. You should get something in the order of 70psi.
The misfires could well indicate no fuel, with the O2 codes following.

Yeah I contacted the salesman when I was stuck on the side of the road in SC. Long story short he said there's nothing he could do until the owner of the dealership gets back after vacation on the 6th. I'm going to try my *** off to get them to pay for all the parts and the uhaul trailer.

So I should have 70psi fuel pressure when the car is not running? Because it won't start at all unless you feed it throttle body cleaner.

Don't quote me on the pressure. what I mean is that you should get pretty high pressure (key in pos. 2). I'm pretty sure the car will run at any pressure between 40 and 85
If the pump doesn't work, you'll get 0psi obviously.

If the car runs when you manually feed it fuel, then that is a pretty strong indicator that your fuel pump is bad. (Any other sensor that would keep the pump from running, like a side stand switch on a motorcycle would likely also cut spark)

Fuel pressure is 0 psi. Turned the key multiple times, tried to crank it over and all I get is 0 psi.

Let the MB dealership take care of it for you, the fuel systems in these cars including the pumps and tanks are covered by a warranty extension. Won't cost you a dime, call your local MBUSA dealer

Crappers man you got screwed, very sorry to hear this. You should get a used fuel pump and slap it in. Drive it to the dealer with it smelling like fuel and get a whole new fuel tank/system under warranty. Did you research at all before buying the car?

They won't fix a bad fuel pump for nothing, unless there was a fuel leak.
