Question Extended Warranty

Hello,

I've read a lot here about them and have some questions.

1.What has been your experience with the credit union CUNA/Members
Choice Platinum coverage? (for 05 E55 with 59K).

2.Shock absorbers are not covered so how are airmatic issues handled? Top reason I would purchase it. Am I covered ?

Replaced everything at about 60K miles on 2000 S500 for $7K! Now have almost 190K miles.

BTW- Thanks for posting service/repair instructions and pics. I hope to do some maintenance myself. I have limited experience but can follow if instructions are clear and specific with good pictures.

Thanks

FYI- I bought the credit union warranty and have been satisfied. They paid 3 claims within 3 months. I hope they continue to honor it.

I was told a credit union was one of the best ways to go. I didn't because I am not a member and I wanted to get mine right away. I ended up using Lasalle after reading a lot of great reviews on some P car and Maserati forums. For Lasalle, the air suspension was a $1500 add on. I can get new Arnott's and replace them for almost as much so I passed on it.

You may want to check around with your local credit unions for eligibility requirements. The one I joined required you to either live, work, shop, etc.....in the city so I joined and opened a $25 savings account to buy the warranty. It covered the rear air bags already.

Speaking on the subject of warranty.....please check carefully their fine print when shopping for one.
i purchased one and had a number 8 cyl problem,so i needed a new engine.Because of the cost involved i had to present all types os service receipt for the vehicle, luckily for me I had all my service records.Even then i had problems with them getting me a new motor.I had to contact the State Insurance Commissioners Office for help, who thraethened to ban them for breach of contract. Not only did they pay for a new engine but they allowed me to keep the old engine.
I had a tranny problem and thats when it got real complicated.....they brought up the fact of them having bro ught me a new engine and that it was over and above the cost of the warranty cost......this time it resulted in them not paying because they stated that the tranny issue was due to the oversized wheel & tire i was running(19')as apposed to the stock (18")wheels and tire. They ended up cancelling my policy and refunding me a pro-rated amount.
Would you believe the sam warranty company call me time after time to sell me another extended warranty.

2007 CL550
I just bought a 2007 CL550 with 50k miles. I'm thinking about buying an extended warranty, but haven't started researching the options. Anyone have a suggestion about the best extended warranty to buy, or others to avoid?

Thanks in advance...

Did some research show 60% of the aftermarket extended warranty were never used? And those who used them only 50% of them made the premium worthwhile?

I didn't know Credit Unions offer that.

Yeah, it seems credit unions are one of the best places for it. I didn't have time to go set up an account especially considering they couldn't give me any quotes. So I went with LaSalle after doing some searching. They come up most often in Porsche and Maserati forums. I paid right around $4k for 3 year, 54k mile major mechanical. It was like a $1500 add on for the air struts. With a $500 deductible, that's about what I could buy them for (and install myself).

Yes, definitely read the fine print. They even took photos of my wheels and tires for inspection. I already talked to them about what I could and could not do to the car. I do plan on removing the resonators and I have in writing, that this will not void the warranty. I never planned on aftermarket wheels and would put the originals back on before it went to the shop if I ever did add them. I also know that warranty companies won't cover modified cars. Same with the original manufacturers warranty. I bought my E63 as a DD and have my LSx swapped BMW touring for heavy mods.

I did not know that department:

If you could indicate the source of the 60 % aftermarket non use, I would be eternally in your debt.

TIA,

It's a crap shoot. I feel like those who get it rarely need it and those who don't often wish they did.
