DIY DRL for E63 front end conversion

So i wanted to get DRL on my E63 front E55. however the E63 front bar i have is not genuine and so I've been told that the E63 DRL that are for sale will not fit as the bar is slightly smaller then the genuine one??.

I didn't wana risk paying $300 for a set and not have them fit. so I took matters in my own hand and purchased a set of 10 super bright COB LEDS and installed them into the side grills. I am very happy with the results and it really looks nicer then the normal Horizontal DRL .

for anyone who is interested on how i wired them.

The engine bay fuse box has a nice 30A fuse there that's live when ignition is on and remains live when the car is running. (sorry i forgot what the fuse is labeled) I used that as the trigger for the first relay that is connected to the battery with a 10A fuse. That covers the power source for the LED'S.
Each LED is 0.75A so 10 amps is plenty for 10.

To trigger the LEDS to switch off when the headlights are on:

I used a NC (normally closed relay) and used the headlight to trigger it to switch off. basically this means the DRL are always on until the Headlights are turned on. (However in my case i put a switch on the headlight signal wire so that i can choose for them to stay on while the headlights are on. just like in the pics.

Here is the link to the LEDS i used.
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/High-...054103360.html

I will take daytime shots so you can see them properly. they are just too bright at night.

$25 later + 1 hour labor.

Opinions?

As you can see, they are very bright! not dull nasty looking ones that look cheap. P.S it looks like the fog lights are on, however its the LED light reflecting from the fog light lens haha

Sweet setup. How will they handle in wet conditions? Did you use heat shrink when saudering the connections?

they are 100% water proof. did you check out the link?

Yeah i used heat shrink for all the soldering, and used connectors on each side, so encase i need to remove the bar i can just unplug them.

I think these look like ****e, no offense. Nothing beats the OEM look, I saw a W211 the other day with these, the other DRLs on eBay AND the stock fog lights. The thing looked ridiculous. I was tempted to tape a flashlight to his bumper and tape some neons under to give him an extra ~40hp.....and some NOS/VTEC kicked in, yo! stickers.

On another note I saw this sick E320 AMG the other day with the quad trapezoid tips from the W212 E63....dat iz sik yo!!

Found another "E63 AMG" with trapezoid tips. It's an E63 but he likes the pre-facelift mirrors better

Your front bumper is ridiculous, it's so off a real E63 one it's not funny. It was purchased from one of those eBay sellers in Melbourne right? God I hate those b*st*rds. I told them over and over the bumpers they sell are $H!T and yet they still sell them. Suvneer's bumpers are WAY better and are pretty much like the OEM but these ones are just a pile of turd. Even the E55 bumper looks better. No offense to you though, you had the right idea about the bumper at least but these morons are selling terrible products.

The DRLs are still loathsome though but I guess you like them so to each his own. I agree with Heissrod, clean install but I am definitely not a fan.

The bumper though, I can't look, it's scarring my brain

To each his own. If mercedes had designed the bumper like the OP, you would be bashing Suvneer. The current flock of w212s have led bulbs looking like a preschooler went to town on the front end of the car. But I guess since MB built that, that's soo much better than trapezoid exhaust tips on a E350 huh.

Not a fan of the downward slope of the leds. But I like it overall. I however think if they were arranged horizontally (will require one less bulb on each side), it will actually be nice.

The middle lower section on the bumper leaves a lot to be desired. Too thin. Other than that, it's fine.

Well as long as you're content, it is your car after all. As for the bumper, it's not about what Mercedes designed, it's about the proportions and what looks right. I just hate that the seller are advertising it as an E63 bumper and not saying in the description that it's different. They write E63 style, what the hell does style mean to them? Anyway it doesn't matter if you're content with it, again, it's your car and just my opinion so good luck and congrats on the DRLs

Yes, I got it. What was wrong with what I said. I ment, everyone can do to their car as they please. I also criticized the seller of the bumper, not the guy who bought it so you just made yourself look like an idiot.

e500SL i know exactly what you mean about the front bar. And yes its from the place called MARS PERFORMANCE. It was such poor quality too. they could have sanded down some lines etc. its plastic but allot of tidy up was needed still. they also provide specifically made CF front lips for it. but they said they got the wrong batch and wont be ordering any until they sell the wrong batch?? lol i wanted the CF lip so bad as the front bar is soo high.

I didn't know where else to go. and genuine ones would be $$$ i wish i got a genuine one now as i could just get the carbon fiber lips that are sold on here.

Man I remember I got one of these jank bumpers. Luckily it was thru Gary Suvneer, and when I let him know it was out of spec, he replaced it for free, and didn't even ask for the old bumper back.

It costs thousands apparently to ship. I was lucky and got an OEM one for really cheap compared to dealer prices. You can get an OEM one for ~$1300 brand new without the accessories which will cost another ~$1500. It's not cheap.

Those idiots at carwear and mars performance know NOTHING. When you ask them they claim it's an E63 bumper. Then when it turns out different they tell you they ment "E63 style". Whatever that means.

+1 with HeisRod... The trapezoid tips doesn't go together with the W211 body style.. IMHO

Just an update guys, I contacted MARS PERFORMANCE and argued with them and they 100% refunded me the price of the bar.

e500slr, i contacted carware and had an indepth convo with them as they had on e bay 2 E63 front bars, one looked identical to the OEM one while the other looked 100% like the "E63 style" that MARS PERFORMANCE sells.

Easiest way to tell was via the size of the fog light mesh and also the mesh style in the center part of the bar.

after bringing to their attention that the bumpers are different, i specifically requested for the front bar that looked 100% OEM. and BAM! i received a complete front bar thats 100% OEM, it looks 1000% better in both quality and finish. I also did not need to trim it or do anything for it to fit over my giant heat exchanger etc.

Iam super happy that i now have a OEM spec front bar. it looks soo different and fits the car so much better then the "e63 style"

I will be ordering 2x CF lips from suvneer and will decide which one to put on.

I will post picture when i get a chance.

Attached are 2 pictures names accordingly. hope that shed some lights and may help a fellow w211 owner in Australia that's after an E63 front bar copy and not E63 style lol

Below is one of the 2 types of front bars that CARWARE sells. this is the exact one i recieved. i asked them to unbox it and take a photo to make sure its E63 copy and not E63 style. so this bar is 100% OEM spec.

NOTE: on E bay they have both types. so you have to be specific and call them and exaplin why you want this particular one.

The bar also came with the LEFT , RIGHT, CETER attachments

Below is the "E63 Style" front bar that's not OEM spec and nothing from the OEM spec bar actually fits it! the bar is too small (narrow and short) to look good on the big body of the W211.

PAY ATTENTION TO THE DISTANCE FROM THE FOG LIGHT TO THE CENTER OF THE BAR AND COMPARE IT TO THE BAR ABOVE. see the difference? also the obvious mesh grill style.
