E63 Front Bumper w/Parktronic Conversion, Please Help!!!

Ok guys, I did a search and read about 12 different threads on the conversion for cars with parktronic, the consensus seems to be to take the E63 sensor brackets off and somehow then replace them with the E55 ones which have double taped sides, part number 171 885 00 14, the threads were a few years old, is there any other better way to do this these days? What about getting E63 sensors, using the stock E63 sensor brackets that come on the bumper and just cut and splice the E55 wiring harness pig tail and connect it to the E63 front harness, has anyone tried this? If someone has come up with a better solution please chime in, not to be a D%#k but please only chime in if you have actually done this mod, this is a OEM bumper also, not an aftermarket.

E63 Front Bumper w/Parktronic Conversion, Please Help!!!

The e63 park tronic sensors is an updated system, and the sensors alone will not work with the E55 system. Perhaps there is a way to get them to work, but no one has done it yet.

Get the plastic bracket adapters, saw them up a little so the sensors sit flush to the bumper, then use ATV sealant to secure them.

Search and you'll find a few other threads discussing this issue. I still need to yank the bumper and ATV mine (the double sided tape on the brackets is not sufficient long term)

I think I know someone who did it in Germany. I read about it last week. Let me find his stuff and I'll check back if it's still needed.

I just did this, it's easy.

Take off the E63 sensor housings, they're generally glued on but with some strong string you can saw them off and then pry them off when they're pretty loose. You also need to take off the silicon seal on the front of the sensor, that ring thing. Just pry it off.

Your pre-facelift sensor holders will work, 100%. Take them off the old bumper and have the look at the front of them, notice those prong things sticking out? You need to sand them with a 400 grit down to flush. Using sandpaper was best for me because I can control how much material I take off. I put the sandpaper on the floor and then grab the sensor adapter and go back and forth on the paper keeping the adapter parallel so it's level.

What you need to do is grab one of the sensors, put in in the holder after those hree prongs are level and then put it against the back of the backer as if you're fitting it. Then look on the front of the bumper and see how flush it is, if it's not, sand it down A LITTLE BIT, then test again. Do this for all the holes and MARK the holder for that hole because the holes on the outside will need a little more sanding and adjusting with the sandpaper than the ones in the middle. Just sand a little and check, sand and check (obviously removing the sensor when sanding ).

When it came time to mount, I used Q-Bond, which is a powder and superglue that form a plastic-like strong material that will adhere to the bumper. What I did was put the sensor in the bracket, put the bumper facing down on something but high off the ground with clearance underneath so I can see and then put the sensor in it's respective hole and center it. I held it with Blu-Tac, a kind of clay like adhesive you can mold. I held it temporarily with the tac from 2 opposite sides. Then in a place where there is no blutac, I poured a little of the Q-Bond black powder and formed a "hill" from the bumper surface to the bracket, then poured some of the glue on the powder, then poured some more until it's glossy but don't let the glue run, pour little by little.

After it's held in place by that side, I do the other and then remove the blutac and do where the blutac was to give a full circle of Q-Bond around the sensor holder. Again, hold it with the blutac then look at the front side of the bumper to make sure it's centered. I didn't pull the sensor out after adjusting with blutac because I didn't want the removal to move the bracket slightly so I kept it in there. The outer holes of the bumper where the hardest using this method, I got someone to hold the bumper up so the hole is parallel to the ground.

It was not very pleasant but not hard. Time consuming more than anything. Mine turned out FLUSH on all holes, perfect. Again, I designated each sensor bracket to that hole, so I custom sanded down for each hole and then wrote on the bracket which hole it's for.

Also, cut off the things sticking sideways from the sensor holder, the part that attaches to the old bumper, it will get in the way of the supports. Also, you will have to sand the sides a little too for the outer holes of the bumper, the outer holes are trickier than the inner ones.

Good luck

Or you use mounting brackets to reuse the old sensors in the new bumper. There are specific ones out there for exactly this situation. No sanding no breaking of sensors.

Good write up though! Thanks.

If you want pics, I've got pics of how mine are mounted. The bumper is off the car so if you want I'll take some pics.

So what method have most used for the parking sensors, reuse the old ones or order new (171-885-00-14) brackets?

Reuse the old ones, don't even try to use the new ones. The old ones WILL work.

Damn it, I mentioned photos and forgot. I'll have them up ASAP as I'm gonna take the bumper off anyway but yes, 110% you can use the original ones, just needs a little modification and on a scale of 1-10 it's a 2 from the easiest.

So to be clear for those of us with W211 pre-face lift bodies (06 E320), for the 07-09 AMG bumpers will I need the control module and all exact parts for the facelift models? I'm curious since it seems I need to buy facelift bumper sensors because the pre-face lift sensors for the 06 bumpers and prior years are a completely different fit.

What parts are interchangeable? I assume the switch at the shifter is interchangeable but what about the front indicator buzzer on the dashboard below the windshield and the rear indicator buzzer on the ceiling above the rear window? The part numbers between 06 and older and 07 and newer are completely different.

The displays should be interchangeable, I'm 99% sure. I have both and they both plug in and work.

Old thread but i had done this long ago on my 211.
It was an aftermarket kit with the LED strip display hidden behind the rear view mirror. looked and sounded OEM, took 3 hours to install...mainly lining up the holes on the bumper and cost $50.
Worked flawlessly for 4 years until I sold the car.

Back from the dead.... Ok so what exactly has to be done and/or parts needed in order to use e63 original brackets that come pre-installed on the e63 bumper? I did the conversion before and went the old route of using slk sensor brackets on e63 bumper but am installing a new bumper this week so would like to know if the alternative method has been done??

Hi,

Does anyone own the Kenwood DDX9703S double DIN head unit?
It's the best rated Kenwood on Amazon and after reading many reviews I've decided that's the one I want.
Other than the annoying legal notice and maybe the price I couldn't find any issue about this head unit.
What do you guys think is this the best choice or are the better alternatives out there.
Thanks!

This thread is about bumpers not about aftermarket radios.
