Bought a new toy
I wasn't really looking for one, but the price was too good not to buy it.
1987 560sl. 102k miles. It looks pretty good considering everything. It was In a storage unit for many years until last weekend. The guy I bought it from said he put a battery in it fired right up. There was a Receipt for maintenance done to it back in 1999 with 102100 on the dash and it reads 102500 as it sits right now. I drove it home (212 miles) but it used about $40 of gas. It needs a new plugs and wires to say the least. All in all I'm excited to add this to the collection. I checked eBay completed listings just as a quick reference and even the not-so-nice ones sold for $9k-ish...
I love the fact that it came with the hardtop, and the original tools remove. Now the question of the century: does the soft top still operate?
Some quick pics, haven't done anything to it except washing it.

Congrats, the R107 is a great chassis!
If the timing chain and guides have not been done, you will want to certainly make that a priority. I have a 560SEC and very similar with the M117 engine and tranny.

Only having this thing 1 day, I've found out DIY and other information isn't as prevalent as W211 information, as expected. The engine seems to be running great, especially once all that old gas burned, I'm gonna do plugs and wires and an oil change tomorrow... This is the engine bay as it sits, I was pleasantly pleased with how clean it is...

Ohh They are haha, but they hold air. Having a blow-out was in the back of my mind the entire drive home, especially when I took her up to 95 hahaha. Check out this old school Pirelli
Yeah I intended on running an big bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner through it. Might be wise to replace the injector in the near future, just to do it. Any other suggestions?

Also, I got the hardtop off and pull the soft top up, I wa see ally impressed with the condition of the fabric and the plastic windows...until I walk to the passenger side and saw a 3.5" tear in the fabric. Total buzz kill, but easy fix. The soft top is black, and I'm not sure if I like that with the color of the interior and exterior. Im Going to explore alternative options...

I like, the white/grey too. The wife hates white cars and that's her favorite. I like em all
That's why I posted the ones I did. I love the color combo. If you paid under 4 you stole it anyway so it doesn't matter

Im far under 4k. I had a friend run a carfax on it, it says it was involved in a front end collision in April of 1996. But you couldn't tell, I'm assuming it was repaired at Mercedes and all parts appear to be OEM, every thing is open and the gaps between the panels are even. (The first picture kind of shows an un even gap between the hood and the passenger fender, but I was actually In the midst of fussing with opening the hood and didn't see the lever in the cabin of vehicle..duh).
I'm not worried about the having that front end damage, obviously it's not preferred haha. But the odds are in favor some damage happening on a car that's near 30 years old with 102k. The repair was done right, and it rides great and everything appears to be straight...it could have been a very minor fender bender that just happened to be reported, we'll never know...
