Would you buy an E55 from a dealer?

I am watching the market, and expect to jump in sometime soon, when I find my unicorn. I aam wondering if you would buy an E55 from a dealer that doesn't have a history of the car? Obviously you could run a Carfax, but you won't get the whole history. and a PPI is a must, but would those two be enough to make you feel secure not buying from a private seller?

I prefer not to purchase from dealers.... especially used car dealers because they know nothing more about the car than you would. The only insight they have would be how much they had to recondition it before making a profit off of you.

You got three choices

buy from dealer
buy from a shady used car dealer lot
private sale

If you can't find private sale off forums from a member that took care of it. Benz dealer would be my next choice. I just got one from the dealer and they were able to provide full VMI.

if the used dealer knows nothing about these cars I would find someone who does for the PPI if the car has the combo you are searching for. As others said from a member or private seller is typically best.

First choice, private seller
Second choice, Mercedes Dealership
Third choice, the devil.

Do you have some criteria in the type of E55 you are looking for? Year? Color, Miles? Stock vs Modded? Price Range?

I bought mine from a MB Dealer, but it was the sales manager's car so I was pretty confident it had been well cared for. ;-)

I got mine from a BMW dealer. It was a one owner car. It had up to date history from the owner with car.

I disagree with most of the responses here. Sure, I'd buy from a dealer, if they'll sell you a good warranty, like at carmax. Heck, you can buy a 125k/5yr warranty from carmax on any car they sell.

My friend is selling his and the car is pristine with only 53K miles. Let me know if you want me to get you in contact with him. He has had it for four years and bought it with 38K miles from a Mercedes tech that worked at Thousand oaks Mercedes.

here is his ebay listing.
