05 E55...let the mods begin.
I've had the car for 6 month now and it's been a great car! It's a weekend toy that never gets old. So to improve on a great thing, I had a Quaife LSD installed, larger HE with separate cooling tank and a smaller SC pulley. Also upgraded the front rotors and pads. So far no tune, but that's coming. Last week I had a cat that started rattling so I'm going to go ahead and do long tube headers, delete one set of cats, high flow cats...the mufflers are TBD. I'm not sure if I want it to be loud. Actually I do know that I don't want it to be loud during cruise at highway speeds.
I'm thinking quiet mufflers and electric cutouts.
The mods thus far have made a huge difference! The car pulls harder and doesn't let up. It also has a more anxious feeling, it's ready to go NOW.
I thought I'd start a thread to document the process.

Reset for pulley but not a power tune. We ran out of time.
With ESP off it leaves long wavy black marks...it basically will annihilate the tires until you let off. The rear diff is the best mod so far.

I've also been discussing long tubes vs shorties. There's about $1800 difference and it's about 20-30 hp less with shorties. I don't know, the dang thing is already STUPID fast as it sits...but will I regret not doing long tubes?

She's in for the full exhaust and the tune. I'm doing long tubes, deleting one set of cats, one set of high flow cats and the stock mufflers. Cutouts will be a future mod.
While it's there I'm having a Blinder laser jammer installed and having the wheels restored...curb rash from the guy I bought them from. Oh, and I'm having the crappy Yokohama tires replaced with some Michelin Pilot Sports.

I don't know what my indy is installing. That might sound silly...because it does to me, but I never asked him. I'll find out and post it here.

Long tubes transformed my car...congrats on the mod fever...i got mine and didn't even wait a week. I run Long tubes, no cats and 6.3 mufflers. Under 3K it's reasonable and above 3K it's mental. I usually stay above 3K

I would have taken longer but my indy is also a friend and we swapped a car for the mods. It was already crazy fast...it's about to get ludicrous!!!

That they do. If you want to get your car on the track let me know. It's a great experience and lets you really open up the gates and have a lot of fun.

I would love to have cutouts, but living in a dense city it makes no sense since I couldn't open them up often (if ever).
Look into vacuum operated cutouts, as they open instantly so you could have them open only under full throttle. Only downside is they are completely open or close, with no in between.

Well, the mods changed a bit. We did a wave Trac LSD, separate HE, pulley, belt wrap, tune for pulley and gutted cats. It's fast, but now it's time for another round. I'm thinking headers, C63 muffs and a eurocharged tune. I need the speed limiter removed. It's at186 now...that's all I'll say. We also put a blinder Laser jammer in it. I want a good radar detector in it too. The laser detector has saved me twice now. I'm also looking at a re-spray on the paint. I want the grill, bumper spears, side spears and door handles to match the car.

Upgrading the E55
Great to hear another fast benz is hitting the streets.
I think you will find that for the money, getting a performance tune would really tie everything together.
Race IQ did mine and after we put the car on the dyno you could really see the immediate improvements. Tony does excellent work and has done a ton of E55's.
As well as the car is now performing, it is funny how you always wonder how you can still go a bit faster !!! I think a Weistec supercharger will be in the future.
Good luck with your build. StevieG
