Stock CTS-V dead even with fully modded E55 ?
Well this is bitter sweet. I just made the jump to a 2009 CTS-V sedan this afternoon with 9K miles Old guy drive it about 40 miles per week lol. Original owner so I am pretty darn sure it is bone stock.
Sold my friend the E55 for just under 20K which also worked out really well for me considering it has 92K miles now and is a little beat up inside and out. He always loved the car and was waiting for me to move up. After he blew the trans on his/my old GTO he wanted to sell it so I thought it was a good time to move on with my car.
Anyhow on to our runs;
1st : We honked off at 65 MPH. I was in manual mode in 3rd gear (CTS) he was in drive. He got the jump and pulled a car and I regained half that when we shut down just over triple digits. Sure didnt expect that.
2nd: started at 60 MPH this time we were both in drive and I got a slight jump and pulled a car. Held it until early triples again.
The AMG feels really good. Water chiller is working and pulls hard like it always did. Only time I tracked it it trapped 123-124 MPH. Never dynoed tuned so I know there is a good 30-40 WHP left in her. At those speeds he should have gotten the shift to 2nd gear. If he didnt that would sure explain it. I think I would have pulled him hard though if it didnt drop to 2nd as 70 MPH rolls are a dead spot for sure.
I really didnt expect this outcome. Perhaps the AMG would pull harder down low. Will find out soon enough. I will say when I went for my first test drive I kept thinking it pulled just like my AMG. 2nd gear 20-25 MPH results in massive tire spin let alone 1st. 3rd at 45 MPH resulted in spin as well. HWY speeds it pulls like a freight train.
Underrated from factory ? Freak ? I know they are only trapping max 119 MPH stock from what I have seen/read. I will say I cant wait to do some mods to this thing. Guys running up to 900 WHP on stock block. several guys running 800 WHP stock trans too. I plan to do a "moderate" build and take it to 650-700 WHP. Cant imagine what that would feel like. Needs bigger tires that the stock 285s out back.

Congrats! I think they are actually that fast. The stock ones I've driven feel just as strong as my e55.
Would be up for trying it out when you get some mods some where in the south bay...

Really impressed by the car. Super comfortable too. Very quiet inside cabin. Nice exhaust tone. AMAZING Bose sound system. Headlights even turn as you go around corners. Kind of weird at first but super nice once you get used to it. I know a lot of guys hate on them but I doubt they have driven one. Very well put together American car.

Congrats!! Pics of your CTS-V!
Why not both start in the desired gear and go at the same time. No lag or waiting for kick down and chasing the other car.

Hard to say. I have seen an E with mid. Headers and 84mm pulley beat a tuned V. All cars are different. Either way they are both very fast.

We both started in drive on second run so that is straight up. I talked to him and he did get the 3-2 shift. It will shift to 2nd from any gear as long as you are below 70 MPH. Has a tuned trans. The CTS got the 4-3 shift second run. One run 65 the other 60 MPH. Both up to about 115 so plenty of time. Like I said they were dead even The V can trap up to 119. Was cold out only 35 degrees which probably really helped the V. The E55 has the chiller all the time so it probably didnt make much difference. Hotter day and I bet it would have walked me.
Yeah time for some mods.

When I drove the two back to back, the V did not feel as fast or as stable as my E. I wanted to like it, but decided not to make the switch.

I have to agree about not feeling as stable. Of course my E55 was lowered but still. Touchy steering also. Sport mode feels pretty solid.Maybe not quite as solid as the E but then again I am not used to it so it might just be different.
Yes the E does trap over 119. 123-124. That being said it was cold out 35-40 degrees. Perhaps that air helps the CTS more than it does the E55 with its mods. Only thing I can think of.
Eitherway it is an awesome car and I am happy with it. Stock it is a true beast ! Power and handling are a quick and cheap to fix on this car.

Wow, okay good to know. Any other way to lower without getting new springs ? My Vette you can just adjust bolts to lower. Handling could certainly be improved. In fact I will most likely do new tires and lower before adding power. My E55 was perfect with the coilovers. Simply amazing handling car even when pushed to its limits.

I raced a stock Cts-v twice. Posted a while ago but i deleted the account with the videos. I got a jump start on him, his front bumper fell back to my rear tire and he started coming and pulling. By tripe digits he was a full car ahead. Over the years I noticed some E55's are faster than others with same mods. I've done 9 years of racing with the e55 lol

Your results don't surprise me. The E55 is a great car and very fast. So is the CTSV. Urban worm has videos of his modded CTSV raping his modded E55. At the end of the day your talking about a newer model (CTSV) running an older model car. One day we will see the next model of Mercedes raping older model CTSVs. Right now you can see newer Hellcats outrunning about everything out there.
Now on to the next step for the CTSV. Cam, pulleys and then a shot of nitrous will get you at or near the 9 second club for less than $10,000.
Lowering on Eibach springs is popular. $300 for the springs, a couple of hours labor and an alignment is all it takes. Here is my wagon on Eibach springs.

Was at the gym one night and saw a guy getting out of a Charger Hellcat. Casually, I walked up to him and asked if he wanted to run after our workout (Knowing I was going to get destroyed)
****ing guy loads 4 people in his car and we hit the freeway..... LOL
70km/h roll, 2nd gear (Perfect for E55 on stock gearing) and we hit it. I jump because he lost traction... Then he just BLOWS by me. I've literally never lost a race before in this car ... Take out 90% of cars on the road. I was very surprised, especially with 4 people total in his car... Ridiculous power.
Those cars are insane. Put me right in my place. All I had was tune and minor exhaust work but still... Even a pulley wouldn't keep me in the race....

Haha. That sucks but is funny at the same time. It takes a heavily modified car to even keep up with a stock Hellcat.
I have a friend that just bought a 2015 Challenger Hellcat. He took it to Roush Yates at a dyno day they were having. Put it in the "show" against a bunch of Mustangs and took the trophy. 670 rear wheel horsepower and it had 500 miles on it, bone stock. His is a manual transmission. I think the automatics are closer to 640 stock.
Another guy I know on the CTSVowners.com page traded his Cadillac for a Hellcat Challenger. He absolutely loves the car and doesn't miss his Caddy at all. His old CTSV ran a best of 10.77 at 127 mph and here is his list of mods.
2011 Sedan Black - CAI, Ported TB, Snout and Blower, upper and lower pulley, cam, dual springs with titanium retainers, injectors, thermostat, heat exchanger, kooks headers and xpipe, engine and tranny tune. 631 rwhp.
His best in his bone stock Hellcat is 10.89 at 125mph. And he has a 5 year 100k warranty. Video below is the former Cadillac owner's new car that supports his self proclaimed "Burnout King" status.
Bottom line is don't feel bad you lost. I for one applaud you on going for it!
