Titanium fasteners

So who has started switching over to titanium fasteners? I'm looking to shave weight. Yes, I know Ti bolts are expensive, I plan to do little by little. I started with wheel lugs. I was more or less curious if anyone had a list of what size goes where.

you're driving a Mercedes man! if you want something lightweight buy a Honda. or add more power. you're just throwing money away buying titanium anything for this car.

Doesn't mean I can't make it lighter. Was just gonna do a bit here and there. I know some.of the Evo guys have pulled off over 100lbs in bolt weight.

Search battery option posts, you can save 25 lbs going to a smaller size. That's like $5000 of titanium I'd guess LOL. I am tempted by the titanium lug bolts, they look very cool, but really can't justify the expense.

Already did the battery. I've also gone to lighter wheels, rotors, and eliminated the spare and tools, ect.

Unsprung weight is 1lb = 10lbs. I get where you are headed but seems like a mundane and arduous effort to save a few pounds.

Our seats, interior and sound deadening is a few hundred pounds I would gander. Remove the sound deadening below the carpet and you will shave some weight

I would just go the route of spending that $$$ as a down payment for adding more stable power via custom designed water to air intercoolers and or meth injection. Look up the thread "dont drink the koolaid" I think it is by starving artist on his CLS he quotes $1500-2k for a dual setup similar to what the SLR runs. Lower stable IATs are the name of the game with these heavy beasts IMHO and others.

I am going to coils currently and my car is taken apart in my garage. Let me know if you are interested in diameters of the unsprung bolts they are maybe 2lbs total lol. Going to coils probably saves over 50lbs and you dont end up dead on the side of the road fwiw

Keep in mind that titanium likes to gall. You don't want to try to drill out a titanium fastener that is stuck. They eat drill bits!

LOL..... You're kidding right?

Ti Bolts are weaker than the same size steel bolt. and yes they are ~28% lighter but you need to look a the bigger picture in the car.

It's not made to be a lightweight it's 4400 lbs. lets say you lose 100lbs in fastener weight that get's you from 8.8lbs/hp to 8.6lbs/hp. If you did a mod to get 11hp you have covered that weight savings and honestly until you gut the interior and put racing shells in for seats changing out the fasteners is the last mod you should be doing

Whhhoooops.... well we all gotta have goals right?

It is this thread, save your pennies and do this :-0

Add Power as mentioned no purpose in trying to shave a bunch of weight from this nice cushy ride IMHO its not a complete drag beast just a wolf in sheep's clothing

EREBUS is da man, StarvingArtist his first thread stalker Once I got my car to rebuild this was one of my first thoughts that was needed with complaints of high IATs... glad someone finally did it

I know a guy with an Evo that is more than obsessed with titanium. Every time I turn around he has something else insane made of titanium. In his case, I'd say over 100 lbs may be an understatement.
