Michelin vs. Michelin

I'm starting to lean towards A/S 3's. No one has complained about performance and of course it would be great to get reasonable miles out of a set. I would be happy to get 20k! Only down side is my heart was set on PSS to see what kinda times I'd run at the track.

I have a brand new set of PSS's that were put on in November. I will echo what others here have said in that they are pretty close to useless in temps below 40 degrees. I have winter tires/wheels, so its a non issue, but its something to consider depending on where you live and if this is your only set of wheels/tires.
I will buy them again though (or whatever variant they make next) when these wear out.

Cold weather performance is not really a concern for me. It's not a DD. Have you had PSS before? If so, how many miles did they last? What I'm really trying to ascertain is the difference in grip between the PSS and A/S 3. I'm hoping someone that has had both will chime in.
I have never owned A/S 3's. Sorry I can't help out with a comparison.

AS3+

PSS

Lots of good info there.
That said, if you go solely by their survey results, the AS3+ wins...

Not sure if you are aware, but tirerack did testing on both the AS3+ and the PSS:

Tirerack user ratings always seem great on newer tires, AS3+ total miles at 350K. PSS highly rated after 7.5 million. But I still think an all season makes sense. Better tread life and excellent grip in varied conditions. If you want a track tire I wonder if a drag radial wouldn't be better? If you were just going to try it once then do it on all seasons.

Good point. I like going to the track periodically. Often wished I had a set of DR on CLK rims but probably won't happen. Not many floating around CO and I'm not really interested in paying for shipping wheels.

I currently have PSS on my E55.
However, I've driven two BMW M3 vehicles at length; one had PSS, one had PS-AS3+. Same wheel and tire size, both same year, both virtually brand new (both had right around 1000-2000 miles on them), and both on the same roads at the same time of year. Here are my thoughts:
1. PS-AS3+ supposedly will have longer life, treadwear rating is higher, mileage warranty is higher.
2. I live in California, weather is usually good, an all season tire is not necessary as a summer is sufficient.
3. PS-AS3+ rides significantly stiffer than the PSS, PSS is more comfortable. This surprised me.
4. I expected the PSS to be quieter; can't say I heard much of a difference to determine if either one was quieter.
5. PS-AS3+ costs a little more, but no major difference.
6. PS-AS3+ does perform significantly better in the wet. This is to be expected, but the difference was actually larger than I expected.
7. I'd like to say the PSS had better traction and better acceleration. I would assume/presume this. But in all honesty, I didn't notice any difference in this department; the difference may be so minute in the real world application that you have to go to a racetrack to see a true difference.
Overall, I recommend you give the PS-AS3+ a try. After driving the PS-AS3+, I do find I like the tire more than the PSS on the BMW M3. After my PSS tires wear out on my E55, I'm going to try a set of PS-AS3+s. Biggest caveat is the PS-AS3+ does seem to ride significantly harsher, possibly due to a stiffer sidewall?

I have been running AS3s. After almost 20k miles, replaced them with AS3+. Very happy with them. Selected the AS3+ over the PSS primarily because of treadwear rating. I'm very impressed with their performance on dry pavement.
Others have mentioned that the new PS4

If you can wait, you should. Good luck!

I have had my PSS on the car for just about 3 years. I am shocked it lasted this long. I am replacing them now but, Just thought I would share.

I got right around 20K or 22K miles (I forgot) with the rear PSS. The front was only a couple thousand miles more not because of treadwear but because of inner tire wear due to the aggressive camber. The camber really kills the front tires.

I have tried AS 3+ and AS 4 on my X3M and found that AS 4 outperforms AS 3+ in the majority of the categories. In wet roads, the AS4's traction and breaking distance are slightly better. AS 4 continues to work well on snow roads. It exhibits superior traction to the AS 3+.
