Sport Auto tests the W212 E63 on the Ring
As part of their Supertest series, Sport Auto magazine has tested the new E63 AMG.
The laptime around the Ring was 8:10 minutes making the E63 the fastest 4 door Merc sedan ever tested by Sport Auto.
To give some perspective, here are some other 4 door cars tested in the past by Sport Auto (all the same driver, but on different days).
C43 AMG (W202) - 8:51
S4 (B5) - 8:42
C32 AMG (W203) - 8:37
S4 (B6) - 8:29
M5 (E39) - 8:28
RS4 (B5) - 8:25
C55 AMG (W203) - 8:22
IS-F - 8:18
M5 (E60) - 8:13
C63 AMG (W204) - 8:13
E63 AMG (W212) - 8:10
RS4 (B7) - 8:09......on R-compound tires

Seems like AMG has beefed up the handling of the new E-class, given the time is three seconds faster than C63 (which is 200kg lighter according to AMG.com)

2014 CTS-V (6spd, phantom grey), 2010 Cadillac Escalade ESV (black raven)
That is fantastic!
Great time.
The car that shocks me the most is the CTS-V with the manufacturer time of 7:59.
I've test driven both the w212 and the Caddy. The Merc has the better steering feel and feels much more nimble. The Caddy felt kinda numb.
Both great cars, I'm nit-picking here. But a 10 second differential in favor of the Caddy is hard to fathom...

Mfr claims are fairly worthless
Even NBR times by SportAuto can vary materially by tests on separate days, post vs pre-repaving of track, etc etc, but SA is closest acceptable benchmark for chassis/tq, etc on a somewhat real-world like track
Will be interesting to see what the $180K PanamTT can achieve on NBR by SA vs $100K E63
Test-drove PTT vs E63 and, ignoring $80K relative cost difference, was far more impressed by precision/balance/exhaust note/gearbox smoothness/linear tq/advanced safety tech of 63 in mtn twisties, let alone a fast urban fwy in daily commuting duty
