false presafe breaking warning
I get a warning sometimes when no one is in front of me. It usually happens over dips in the road. The dips are not big by any means. My theory is the car is sensing the ground and giving the warning. Any one else experience this? Should I bring her in to get looked at or is this normal? Keep in mind the dips are NOT big at all. The car beeps at me and displays the presafe warning indicator then back to normal a second later.
EDIT - I meant BRAKING in the title guys - sorry ive been at work way to long

I had experierence slightly different than this. There were few times, the presafe system gave me warning while doing aggressive cornning (right turn) at intersection.
I guess the radar sensed the the light post standing on the left side of ramp approaching quickly and perceive as a threat. The warning sound last very short and stop right after I entered the corner passing the post.
I acutally like the sensitivity of the presafe system. It provides more peace in mind and I would be able to enjoy the car a little more.

interesting... i've never had mine turn on, beep at me, or do anything, cornering fast, pot holes or anything. i often question if it even works but have never had the courage to "test" it. :-)

It is quite helpful as I normally do other things (cell or sometimes video chatting) in the car. It does take away a bit of my focus from surounding.
The warning beep is actually quite subtle and it will grab my attention without feeling disturbed.
Other than the presafe warning, the pre-safe brake works wonderfully if I turn on the distronic in heavy traffic. It will do the stop and go by itself almost 100% except I need to pull the cruise control stick to get it going again if car has been completely stopped by the system. This will relax mind and foot greatly and making phone call a lot safer!!

Really? never? Mine yells at me (correctlty so) at least twice a day. It thinks I am getting to close to the car in front of me and warns me. Are you sure you have the system on the car? Its hard to believe it never wanred you yet. How many miles on her? I think you got your car before I did. I would get it checked out if thats the case (for not going on). It should def beep slighty at you if you appraoch a car at a stop light with a little too much speed.

I am wondering your definition of dipped "slightly"? My thinking is that, if it dips significant enough and your approaching speed is fast enough, the radar may sense the up slope as a potential threat.......that's just my guess........please let us know what MB service would say.

The system E55_GT3wheels refered to is BAS Plus (brake assist system). It is available in the E63 with Distronic Plus because a radar needs to be installed at the frond end.

The coffee cup thing is to alert you when you might be too tired or sleepy. When it goes off, it actually gives you a beep warning with meesage displayed suggesting you to pull over for some fresh air...

If you have the drivers assist package, you have to turn on the pre-safe and lane change alert through controls on the steering wheel. The icons may not be on because you haven't turned on those features. I believe its under the settings options.

These cars now a days, come with so many options, sometimes, I'm not sure what i have! :-)
IMO, it's a good feeling knowing there is more to know. With my BMW, felt like it was un-exciting, very anti-climatic.
Fair enough, I'll be sure to not depend on it to brake for me! :-) Glad I never tried testing it.
