Anyone have 2010-2011 and 2012 e63?

Hey guys, just a question for anyone who has driven both cars for more than a test drive. Do you notice a big difference between these models or is it just nice to know the '12 is faster but it is hard to tell a difference? aside from the new motor, are there any bits and pieces that are slightly different that you like/dont like? Are there any differences in handling( i am assuming a 2012 w/o PP would be more comparable to '10-'11) or is the car truly the same aside from the new motor? was the front track made .4 inches wider than '10-'11? Input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

i drove a 12 with PP, and many 10,11's with and without pp, for me, they are basically the same in performance, but im probably not the best person to ask as i do not own either, yet.

perks on the new one i think is the full alcantara, also with the 2011, 2010 doesnt
12 has the new indash colored cpu screen
im not sure of the other stuff

cool, thanks. Im actually really excited about the new color screen(ive seen it in person and it looks pretty good to me) because i think the last one looked horrible.

ya i live the palladium, never seen it on an e63 though. I think i will just have it brought up here on a truck thanks though haha. I would prefer if the first 400 miles were not constant speed/engine speed! im planning on doing a little bit of a hard beak in.

I have not found a 2012 to drive but today I drove a 2011 PP car with 2.4k miles and a 2010 non-PP car with 21k miles. I do not know why but that 2011 seemed a lot more responsive than the 2010. I had driven that 2010 1-2 months ago and had to drive it again because the 2011 just seemed so much different.

The ECU will learn how aggressive the driver is. Most likely the difference is from how each ECU reacts to previous drivers' style.

My car reacts with noticable difference after I started driving very aggressively (rear tires were totally bald around 6k miles) since breaking in the engine.

With much higher torque at low RPM on 12' model, I think the car would have more fun to drive aggressively at lower speed...........I am getting more and more interested in the new TT engine.........

Does the ecu just change how the transmission shifts or is it more? I know on the BMW we are coming from that the transmissions are adaptive like that. This though was the first time I experienced it.

and if i buy a used model, how do i delete the memory of the first driver

The ECU wouldn't know how many drivers you have for a given car. The firmware in the ECU will adjust the responsiveness base the algorithm designed by MB engineer. The firmware will just take all input from all drivers.

My guess the two more obvious factors that ECU will adjust are ==> 1). transmission shift timing and 2). how much time delay from gas padle input unitl the engine responds to it. There could be more parameters that ECU may adjust.

I put it in C and let my wife drive the first time. She told me the car seems quite heavy and slow.........then I switched to S+ (that was after I aggressively trained the ECU)......and she said "Holy................"

Interesting, so it seems it learns based upon each setting? That would be nice and make sense if it did. The 2010 I drove belonged to a lady finance manager at the dealership, so guessing she did not drive too aggressive. The 2011 belonged shortly to a very successful older lawyer gentleman here in town, guessing he had a heavy foot.

in the w212, it takes 40 transmission shifts for it to determine and adjust how you want to drive.

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
Didn't feel any difference between 2010 and 2011 other than the cosmetic with alcantara headliner, stitched MB tex dash, and black lacquered area around the shifter. Alcantara feels nice, but I can go without it with the big discount on CPO cars over new ones.

Still waiting for a chance to test drive '12 model at one of the dealers in Chicago (think they still have two of them). Maybe I will find one to test drive when I go visit my folks in SoCal this next week.

I have not driven the 2012 E63 but have driven a 2012 CLS550. I could not imagine leaving the 2012 E63 and wanting to go back to searching for a pre-2012 car. But after racing turbocharged V8 cars in my younger years it has caused me to have a weakness for turbocharged V8s.

theres a few local dealers by me who have new 2011 E63s,

im wondering, lets say price was identical, and specs were identical,

why buy one car vs the other, 2011 e63 vs 2012,

would it narrow down just to the torque being more available early, because besides that, the cars are the same

oh and the electric steering or whatever,

i guess im wondernig if i go for a 2011 E, new, how much shouldl iask off msrp

The power band is not different in the TT model? I'd thought it would come on differently and peak at a different point. Those sort of things make big differences in my opinion for every day driving but maybe not near as much for WOT blasts. Just based on the CLS550 I'd really expect the power band to be pretty different but perhaps I am assuming too much here.

I'd expect at least $20k off MSRP on a 2011 without even trying to talk them down. There is even a brand new one on eBay that is like $18-19k off MSRP. I sent them a question unrelated to price and they offered to take another $1k off. I think it might even still be on there, it was in Virginia though or some other place on the East coast. Personally I'd not buy one unless it was $30k off but I'd want to save on the $20k or so depreciation, the $4-5k P2 cost(since it is already on the 2012s at no real cost difference), and then something on top of that for the model year differences. But of course that puts me right in the neighborhood of CPO cars with around 10k-15k miles on them. So highly doubt they'd drop it that far plus I'd be better off getting the CPO car for the added warranty anyway. Since the extended warranty seems to cost so much and I think goes to less miles than a CPO and even seems might not be available on AMG cars any more.

but remember the cpo warrenty back starts when the car was originally purchased,

alot of 2010 cars ive seen were purchased in nov 2009 , so the 5 yrs isnt all that long, sure u get miles but i think the yrs is more important, alteast for my driving so far

ive seen a "new" dealer car, very nice with 5000 miles on it for 88K, i think still way too much even with designo paint

Between my cars I drove 43k miles between Sep-2010 to Sep-2011. I am very confident if I wanted to use up the entire CPO mileage warranty on anything out there that I could without even trying. It just means making what ever I buy my primary vehicle. About 33k miles of that was solely on my primary vehicle.

That "new' car you are referring to, was it the blue PP equipped one in Texas? If so then I drove it and their ads are wrong, it does not have 5k miles but instead 2.4k miles. That dealer is notorious with over pricing their cars. When I first started looking at these cars another dealer here in town had a used E63 with 89 miles on it and for $89k, it had more options than the blue car and was CPO'd. That blue car they will CPO if someone is willing to pay another $2.5k.

The new black eBay car I mentioned was $83k on eBay and like I said they dropped to $82k without me even bringing up the price of the thing. That made it almost exactly $20k off the MSRP. I'd made an offer on that one but have to wait 1-2 months to know if we are going to move overseas or not.

The blue one I have eyed is local to me in Cali

I just tested a 2011 new without premium 2. Only p1

They stickered for 92k$$
I can't recal what p2 gives u in the 2011 car

I then drove the 2012 wagon. Tru. No third row. Options were wheels. Carbon and lane assist for 97

They said they would make a great deal on the 2011. No sure if that means 10 off or 5 off as he was vague when I askwd

$10k off to me does not sound like much of a deal since that puts you in line with the car on the east cost that has pano, P2 and I think a couple other options. Sure it is on the east coast but cost to transport over and even to fly to look at it still puts you ahead. Which I'd thought would make for bargaining points to drive the local one down more than $10k. Also with the 2012 base being around $90k and coming with P2($4900-5000 on the 2011 stickers), I think no gas guzzler tax($1.5k or so but guess that was included in that $92k sticker price) and a better engine setup really makes $10k off to $82k some smoking deal to jump on.

Only reason I even want P2 is for the headlights, outside that I could care less so did not really commit to memory what all it included on the pre-2012 cars.

You can pretty much go in any dealer and order a brand new bareboned 2012 for $83K. I found out that you can have the dealer run the vin number and it seems that extended warranty is still available for new AMG cars. The wording on the MB site is really strange and explained to me by MB of Santa Rosa. However, I would still like the additional year on the CPO car, then buy additional two years of factory extended warranty. Yes, the warranty +1 year starts and continues to run even when the CPO car is unsold on the MB lot.

i think P2 had the adaptive headlights, which are xenon, but im sure all mercs are xenon now arent they, except low end C's

btw, the 2011 felt quicker than the TT,

we tried to get the ECO stop to work, button was on, and pressed on the brake at stops but the engine stayed on? wierd, and we were in C mode
