Do I need to spec a limited slip dif.?
Hi allI have a 2013 e63 on order and can't decide if I need to spec. The limited slip dif. I have seen many discussions about this and can see that true petrol heads tend to say yes! I would really rather not add another £2580 to my tab but I don't want to spoil the car either. It is described on the options list as a dif. Lock, what does this mean? I have recently owned an m3 I am ashamed to admit but I did love getting the back end out and it was very controllable, if I don't spec it on the amg will I lose this? I am having the estate, does this have a bearing on anything? If I don't spec it will I still be able to have some fun? I will never take it to a track. Will I struggle getting the power down without one? I think the response I would like is lots of e63 owners to say they don't have one and can still have some fun with it!
Thanks in anticipation

You're not waiting for the facelift '14's? They should be landing on lots by the summertime....
LSD should be mandatory on any car with over 300hp in my opinion. There is no way you can put down over 500hp to one tire. It really does change the dynamics of the car. Many will argue save the money and install an aftermarket one.
You will never hear anyone complaining about having one, but you will here several people complaining that they should have one.
It is an investment, but since you're looking at a '13 you can probably get that much discounted since the '14's are coming. Are they still building 13's to spec?

I have a 2012 e63 and was in the exact same situation as you. It's definitely necessary for these cars to have LSD, the first time I ordered my car to all my specs it arrived 3 months later, without LSD, and I walked away. I went to another dealer, ordered with LSD, and waited another 3 months. I now have my car and am enjoying the limited slip, it's a must on a powerful car. Also just a side note, the LSD used to be part of the performance package up until 2011. Go with the LSD, you won't regret it.

Hi there,
I am waiting for the facelift, they have said hopefully may or June delivery.
I haven't had to finalise my spec yet as I am still waiting for my slot.
I am amazed they don't put one on as standard!

Agree with Calmiro!
Offering >500hp car without LSD is retarded.
MB should make it standard option and just raise the base price of the car.

I didn't get it and I have pp. Its a lot of power to handle. I've never really. Compared back 2 back the difference.
I wonder if by have 4wd on the new car it negates the need for lsd

The new S Model, either 4Matic or not, has LSD as standard. That's per the UK and the US press releases that are linked here:

So it seems that for non-S Model cars, you'll need to spec it. I agree with others that any car with this much power absolutely must have LSD.

'22 Alpina B7,'21 G63 Renntech obviously (wife), Wrangler(kids)
OEM LSD locks only up to 30%,Renntech will up to 100%.
That car, especially modded needs all the help it can get to put that power to the ground, with a bit of rain it becomes undriveable and any Toyota Camry will blow your doors off at the lights.

RennTech's website says about 3500 for the LSD alone. I've seen Quaife's for around 1000 on eurocharged's website. Not sure about install.
Since they need an oil change after about 1000 miles, not sure if the dealer would do it or if you would need an indy shop to do it for you.
