Got my car tuned, by the best in biz.

Car is a beast

541 awhp/579 awtq pre tune

603 awhp/717 awtq post tune

This was done on an AWD dyno so comparing numbers to the earlier RWD models/my '13......these numbers are pretty damn good! Alpha/AMS have this same tune in their shop 2014 E63 and its been running like a champ.

AMS shop e63 My car on dyno Thx to Eric, Dan, Martin and the whole team.

Nice work. Love to hear more about how different it feels.

Sort of interesting how TQ starts to drop off earlier after tune in the range of 42-4500 RPM rather than closer to 5000 rpm pre tune. Guess the TQ restriction people have talked about might still be there.

Congrats

Turbos cant keep up the boost pressure.

Interesting power band! Im sure it pulls like a absolute tank but I kind of like power bands that dont start dropping off after 4.5k

Seems like an aggressive break-in plan

The turbos could keep up the boost pressure, but that far outside their efficiency envelope they'd start making very very hot air (and thats not good for power or parts).

AMS probably watches the intake air temps and stops asking for boost when it starts looking inefficient or cant take as much ignition advance.

Also interesting, peak power is just above 5000 rpm. No wonder they put larger turbos on to speed the car up. If you are looking for when to shift at the strip, the answer looks to be around 5700 rpm... damn.

Thank you Dr. SS!

Regarding the curve/powerband and IAT questions our head engineer and president Martin Musial will be popping in here sometime today to answer all of your questions.

Dr. SS’ final numbers were right in line with our own shop E63 AMG (non S) that put down an impressive 609whp with only a tune!

With AWD and this kind of power we can’t wait to get these cars to the track!

For more information on getting this tune for your 2014 4Matic please contact sales@amsperformance.com or call 847 709-0530.

Here are some nice pics of Dr SS' E63S

Here are the dyno charts of our own 2014 E63 (Non S)

Our apologies for no torque readings. We were having a hard time getting a tach signal on the dyno.

Here is a 2nd - 5th gear pull on the dyno

These motors are out of this world. One tune and you're at some damn good numbers!

great numbers. Beautiful ride as well. Question I have is are the numbers pretty much all the same with all the tuners ? I would imagine so . ?

Here is a quote from our President Martin Musial

"Chris and I here at AMS did all the development tuning on the M157's. The 2014 ECU is a little bit different than the 2012-2013's. Nothing serious but there are a few differences. The S model makes quite a bit more torque and power under 5000 rpm compared to the non S model. Over 5000 rpm the two actually very close, and I'm sure Mercedes did this because they knew the turbochargers are already close to their limits.

This is classic case of using all of the turbochargers. We can make power and torque down low but up top they are just out of steam. We are monitoring boost pressure and you can see this as the boost drops off up top. We can force the ECU to try to run more boost up top but turbo's just won't make any more, plus this can actually cause a power loss as you over-speed the turbochargers (also bad for the turbo's) and increase exhaust backpressure.

We can make more power and torque down low but we feel that the tune we have is the best trade off of safety and power for pump gas.

The beauty of a turbo upgrade is that it will flow up top so you can make the same peak torque (so it won't be any harder on the engine) but your power/torque after 4.5K rpm will be much higher.

The 2014 AWD E63's make about 15-20whp less max power than the 2WD 2012-2013's. This is because they are now AWD so there is some power loss through the AWD drivetrain.

Hope this answers some of the questions. Please feel free to ask anything else!

Best regards,

Martin Musial"

There are a few things we do that aren't apparent on the dyno graphs. One of them for example is that we adjust the intercooler pump turn on points to come on much earlier. The stock pump doesn't start working until the air temp in the intake manifold gets pretty hot, we lower this so the charge temp is lower and more consistent. This lets the car make better and more consistent power on the road and lowers heat soak in the intercooler.

Great stuff AMS.

How much benefit will adding downpipes be?

Martin,

Thanks for the great insight. I figured there was a good reason for the drop off. Awesome work. If I decide to tune the beast, I will probably make the drive up to Chicago to see you guys.

I dont really want to speculate just yet as we have not done back to back testing but will very shortly. MBworld will be the first to know

OK Eric but when you do that back to back testing make sure you engineer RHD and LHD workable parts (preferably universal fitment rather than specific). :-D

old thread i know, but what octane was this on? I am assuming 91 as these numbers look about same as weistec's 91oct tune...

do you have 93 oct numbers? thanks
