Baseline drag strip testing - Stock 2013 E63 w/ PP
I was anxious to try out my new 2013 E63 w/ PP in stock trim, and Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA happened to be open this weekend. Now keep in mind this is one of the slowest tracks in the nation, at 1100 elevation, and a 0.3% incline from start to finish. On top of that, ambient temps were around 95-100F yesterday. Independent testing has shown that given equal conditions, trap speeds will be about 4mph higher at my usual track Famoso Raceway compared to this one. That said, attached is my best of two passes (I'm car 9033).
Car was run bone stock with only 800 miles on the odometer. I was pleasantly surprised to hit 120mph traps at this track, especially given the heat. At Famoso with cooler conditions, I'm hoping to pull off 124mph traps when I get back out there in the Fall. Not too shabby for a bone stock grocery getter.

That's a pretty impressive stock time considering all the conditions you mentioned (altitude, temp, humidity, new engine, etc). Dare I say you'd be in the high 11's stock at sea level, cool temp and with about 15k miles on the engine?
What was your launch technique -- brake torquing, race start? Did you have any bogging down effect when launching -- I've had that a few times when launching -- I'm thinking it has to do with the AWD and super grip this 2014 has...
How much gas did you have in the tank?

he always wanted the PP and traded in a 1 year old 2013 for a 2013 with a PP

Yes, that is a good time especially from what you say about the track. Best I could get with my 2012 wagon was a 12.3 in Florida at night at around 80 degrees out. I thought I'd be faster as my wagon has the power pack option on it and it had new tires on it that hooked up really good. Then again at the same track my 2013 Cadillac CTS-V wagon was running mid to high 12's which was even less impressive.

I think it was white that he wanted more than the PP
his car was modded well past a PP, so theres no point in trading just to get a PP, enless it was for the steering wheel and red brakes.....eric pulled on my car with his renntech tune car in the 1/2 mile
eric, so u have noticed a considerable difference in the PP vs when u had stock 63?? power? handling? with the stiffer suspension

And it was the white exterior I was mostly after.

I still can't figure out why the best I was able to get was only a 12.3, I had three runs and tried different combinations with similar results, the only thing I did not try was Race Start. Did you use Race start at all? I guess maybe these cars vary in speed from car to car or maybe the 2013 is a little faster than the 2012 because I know your car would beat mine from the numbers you posted. The real strange thing about my car was the tires hardly spun at all with no burnout and traction control off in that run I did. I thought for sure the tires were going to go up in smoke and end up in the 13's or something. That run was on par with traction control on, it did not make that much of a difference. The Bridgestone Pole Positions I have seem to hook up much better than the contis that were on the car stock. I guess maybe the start line was just really sticky that night at the track too. The DA was about perfect and like I said only about 80 degrees. Makes me really think about considering a tune to get this car into the 11's, but I spent over 3 grand on a extended warrantee and hate jeapordize that. I understand on the Nissons they can tell the car it's the track via the GPS and void a warranty that way, hopefully not the same with the Benz.

I going through a Mercedes Benz - Renntech dealer in Kansas City and they will honor the MB warranty if you get the tune through them...

All we need is some more hard facts about it like back to back drag strip numbers from a trusted forum member with and without it. As I wont get my car untill late snowy Nov, I will not be able to test it before Spring, but if someone is willing to try it, I'd gladly Paypall some money to offset the cost of testing for all of us, and if others join too, we can get some real data about an easy Tuning solution.

Yes, that's why the Rebellion Piggy back module is also very tempting, as you can bypass it or remove it in a few minutes if needed, and it's relatively cheap too.

If the rebellion got me even a half second off the quarter mile I'd be game, but like was said, just not much information and dealing with a company that is all they way in Europe concerns me a little bit too if there were issues, it would be pretty embarrassing taking it to the dealership in a messed up condition because something bad happened with the piggyback tune.

I need to get better at using race-start -- when I use it and I get the revs up to about 3000 rpm and then let off the brake and slam on the accelerator, the '63 bogs down and jerks forward until it finally starts accelerating aggressively ..
When i tried with the brake torque -- it seemed like a smoother launch. I think the race start just is a matter of getting the technique mastered... not unlike dumping the clutch on a stick shift...
