Very important ... What mileage are you at??

It's almost as important that you have actually generated wear as it is to get it done on time. Spend the first 1000 miles gently breaking in the engine and the next 1000 miles taxing your LSD.

I agree , when the factory recommends service.
I think it should be done. However, the first dealer I called, where I bought the car, told me nobody ever has that done, and to wait for the first oil change at 10,000 miles.
The other dealer didn't know what I was talking about, checked with someone else and said, if you want it changed fine, but its not needed.

My own post made me think...
1) If you don't perform the diff fluid change and something goes wrong in the diff later, did you just screw yourself? (its listed as required maintenance)
2) Does the maintenance plan cover this?

as afaed perfectly put it -- it's required maintenance... it's just silly that they would say something like "you don't need to do it, but if you want to, we'll do it"
That cracks me up... LOL
I read a couple threads on people that were denied or had a very hard time with MBUSA warranty coverage on the drivetrain because they neglected this LSD oil change... If someone were to listen to these dumba$$ dealerships you've been to, I would want in writing from the service manager and owner of the dealership that it is their opinion that the LSD oil change is NOT required...
Could they have mistaken the front differential oil change?
You do have the E63S, correct? Because the E63 non-S model does not need the LSD oil change as it does not have an LSD
Your signature states you drive an E63 .. not an E63S ... perhaps these dealerships knew this about your car.

Then Jim I'm at a loss, sorry you have to deal with these service departments
