I'd think the straight pipes, since with the X pipe you probably get some noise cancelation from the pulses. I don't see why people want these cars louder, for me the car is plenty loud enough as it is.

I think the quantity of sound would be about the same. The quality is a little different though. Do a search theres a thread with sound clips comparing straight vs x pipe.

I removed my resonator and installed straight pipes in place. Definitely louder and sounds much better(to me). At first i thought it may be too loud but now its perfect.

When i did the X pipe on my 07 E63 I noticed some low end power loss. I tuned it soon after and it felt great again. Not sure if it would have felt better with the tune and not removing the resonator but it sure sounded great. With my current M157 resonator delete and straight pipe I noticed zero power loss, just awesome sound and plenty of power. I plan to get a Renntech tune just a little hesitant wiith the warranty and all. I'd say remove the resonator and get a tune.

So on the 5.5L BiTurbo you noticed no power loss with a straight pipe in place of the resos or did you go x-pipe?
Thanks

The M157 is the 5.5 BiTurbo Correct? I was considering removing the resos next year but no tune as my car is brand new only a few weeks old and I'd like to retain my warranty.

alright so update, the shop said for the same amount of money they could leave in the resonator and do a muffler delete and add straight pipe. would that give me some good sound??? or would it be a cheaper sound?? if you know what i mean.
thanks for the input

and why not remove the resonator?

Do they have an E63 with removed mufflers and res in place? So far every thread I read from people who have removed their res have all had positive feedback including myself. I would trust the many E63 owners over someone saying it "may" sounds better but I wouldn't mind you trying and reporting back.

Remove the resonator and see how you like it, if its not enough for you then remove the mufflers. Personally i think it sound awesome as do most who do this mod.

There's a clip posted by I think TTA850 of his Cardinal red with straight pipes replacing both the res and mufflers.
Sounds bad *** but I wonder if it'd be too loud for me personally. I have res delete + cattted DPs which I feel is perfect for me.
