Designo vs AMG premium leather

Im curious about the durability of the designo leather seats compared to the amg premium leather. I'm concerned about excessive wear on the designo leather if it is softer than the amg premium leather. Is there any reason to order the designo over the amg premium leather assuming they are both black? Thanks.

I thought the reason to get Designo was the ability to get custom colors.
If you plan to go all black then I don't see the point. Unless there is something special about Designo over the regular leather?

My 05 w220 has designo leather and is a daily driver. The seats are absolutely fantastic and have very minimal wear. The quality of the designo leather is really extraordinary.

leather quality, if judged by feel and smell, between MB cars seems to vary a lot, for example the SL has a much stronger leather smell and softer feel in the interior than the cls63, and the cls63 has a stronger leather smell than the E350 I had, I wonder too if there is a difference between standard and designo leather

I have black standard leather in my cls63 which is wearing very well, hardly any signs of use, except on the driver's seat it's starting to show seat crease lines on the door side, but nothing major

i noticed that about the sl too.

but if you order designo leather in a cls63, lets say "jet black", will it differ any from the regular black nappa, or passion black, or whatever its called?

you would assume/hope so if they charging you for it.

but...

As far as I know, the AMG Premium Leather is semi-aniline and the Designo is aniline. Shouldn't be much difference except for colors though.

Designo leather in CLS is neither semi nor full aniline. It is nappa leather (called also passion leather) available with different colors.

I can't speak on experience from the CLS but I can speak on behalf of the designo choices for the W212 (which is probably similar to the CLS W218).

All 2014+ E63 comes with Nappa leather standard. This is already a soft grain of leather that does wear down faster than a thicker hide like what's optional on an E550/E350. The designo option for the E63 only gets you a different color leather with designo floor mats. The designo is still the same nappa leather compared to a standard model, you simply get a different color and different pattern (black seat backs with colored front vs. a seat all in one color).

Semi aniline and aniline only refer to the way the leather is dyed- aniline leather does not refer to the hide. According to the EPC datacard, the standard nappa leather for the E63 is semi-aniline. The data card is semi vague for designo interior cars, but I assume it's also semi aniline.

My 2003 designo leather seats have the little holes for the cooled seats. I lifted myself up in the seat while driving and pushed my thumb right through the soft leather.
Wouldn't happen on the standard leather on my SL so be careful ...

S550
Careful! 2012 S550 with white designo leather, 38,000 miles run and the leather on the driver seat is completely ruined. Not only creases and folds, but the white leather surface is rubbed off and gone in many places (seat, seat side walls, backrest side walls), leaving only the gray underlying matrix. Looks really ugly.

Had a 2007 E350, 95,000 miles and leather seats in perfect conditions. Just looks at a 1980 (!) 300TD having seen every day use; wonderful seat conditions. So disappointed by the new Designo seats.
