Hi guys,

Was looking into purchasing a '12 CLS63 AMG this coming week and wanted to know if there is anything I should look out for? The vehicle has about 55K miles.

If you are anywhere near Indiana this dealership has a 2012 cls63 with 26k miles on it for $57k

Im sure the price with 55k miles would be a bit cheaper but these cars are good as long as the mileage is low..

2012 is rear wheel so if snow is not an issue in your state then 2012 will do..

The one I was looking at for was going for 51K after negotiations and all. Snow isn't an issue.

Other than the obvious items like a clean carfax and complete service records: Try to get them to lower the price, buy an extended warranty, check the wheels (make sure none are bent), brakes (make sure rotors aren't warped), tires, air suspension on the rear as well.

Rotors, wheels, and tires are are costly. Not saying you can't find lower prices but retail on factory MB parts you're looking at rotors 1,000 each (if the vehicle has carbon ceramic brakes you don't even want to know the price), the wheels are 2,600 each, 1,800 or so for a set of factory Conti tires. Cost of brake pads is negligible comparatively speaking, but pads all the way around you're looking at 700-800. All these numbers are just parts, not factoring in labor.

If the deal sounds good it can quickly turn bad if you discover some of these items after the fact. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much, anything I should check out for engine etc..? I think the car has the AMG Performance Package, so would that be the carbon ceramic brakes?

I just bought an ELW for mine, I'd suggest doing the same if not already. I have not had one major issue with mine, knocking on wood, since I bought it in 2012

Same here, I haven't run into any motor isues. The extended warranty can give you peace of mind on that. Would anyone else like to chime in on motor concerns?

Not sure if I can buy ELW if the car was already preowned, its not from a benz dealership. Can I still purchase?

Former Saab owner here. If you are within the factory warranty you can purchase a Mercedes ELW (Extended limited warranty) with the same terms as certified warranty. It's a genuine Mercedes product and runs about $7500 for an 5 additional years, 100k total miles coverage. In my experience one year in, it shouldn't be hard to get your money's worth.

You are over 50k miles, you can't buy the ELW. Your build date is most likely expired for the 4 years anyways. You would have been able to call any MB dealership and buy the ELW otherwise.

I personally would go for a 2013 with less than 50k miles just so you can buy the ELW - the factory warranty to me is the ultimate extended warranty.

Rear suspension was sagging when sitting for a few days. They replaced most of the air bag system, including compressors. Slight hesitation from a stop resulted in a new wet clutch. New blower motor to remedy fan noise. All in came to about an $8k warranty bill. I've had the car for a year. With 2 more to go under warranty, I feel like the $6700 up front for the additional 3yr 100K mi (not 5 years as I said before) will turn out to be a great value.

If I was paying for the repairs out of pocket, would I have done all that work? Nope. Maybe in the future I would have had to though as the small issues may have gotten worse over time. Today the car has 60k miles and looks and drives like new and I expect it will for years to come. If I have a problem, Mercedes is paying. Best of all they give new loaners so having the car in the shop for a week is no inconvenience.

Just to follow up, I sold the car with 110,000 miles. Didn't do much else to it beside replace a starter, some hoses in the cooling system and an air bag on one side. Mabye a few smaller things I don't recall. FYI, it's very easy to change an individual air bag just pulling one wheel off and if you do it when sagging starts, you can save the rest of the system from getting overworked. Car was bullet proof and still looks and drives like new.
