CLS 55 AMG Exhaust options
I drive a CLS 55 AMG all stock except a software tune/ulimited topspeed by my Mercedes Dealer.
I am looking for some more exhaust noise.
There are a few options:
Remove the Resonator.
Remove the Resonator and replace it with a Xpipe.
Remove the secondary Cats and leave the Resonator
Remove the Secondary Cats and Remove the Resonator (maybe a bit too loud?)
Remove the Secondary Cats and Remove the Resonator, and replace the Resonator with an Xpipe. (maybe a bit too loud?)
What should be the best option?
Could it be that I will lose some torque by removing the Secondary Cats?
Will the Resonator Removal be enough to make it louder?
Are there any MBworld members that have done these mods?
Thanks
Nick

Depending on your proximity to exhaust shop, you can do a step by step approach to see what you like.
Personally, I only have the resonators removed. The car is modded though, but sounds like a pure animal under throttle. But it's quieter on startup than my CLK500 with custom exhaust and straight pipes.
Just resonator removal will give you nice deep amg growl when you accelerate, but no drone or loud noise when normal driving. I'd suggest starting with a resonator delete and if you want more, then you can take out the 2ndary cats, or try and X-pipe. Or gut out the mufflers, or replace with c63 mufflers.

Pufftrees,
You just have straight Pipes instead of the resonator?
And would replacing the resonator with an Xpipe make it louder? or just a deeper growl?
Thanks

No I meant straight pipes on my CLK500.
For the CLS55 the only exhaust mod is the removal of the resonators. This does definitely make the car sound louder under accelleration, and there is a minor sound increase otherwise.
Removing the secondary cats again will add more sound, typically a slight little raspier sound. Which would be increased again if you added an X-pipe. If I were you I would start with either a resonator delete, or do both resonator and 2ndary cat delete. The sound will definitely be noticeably different. If you want more then go from there.
Just remember, an obnoxiously loud exhaust can be fun... but after you have it for 6 months to a year you might be very annoyed by it. Droning, loud starts for neighbors, or just poor cabin sound etc. Good luck!

E350 4matic, Porsche Cayenne S
Hi guys,
I had CLS63. And I did second cat removed and X-pipe on the resonator. normal drive is OK. i mean it's not loud as well as cruising on highway. But when you accelerate, that AMG sound is fantastic. I love it so much. Also, when you revv it, at high rpm it even more growling.
But if you have money, I would suggest go for meisterschaft exhaust. They are incredible WOW. I had meisterschaft on my E350. And it was totally worthed.

Pufftrees,
Thanks for the info IL start with removing the resonator, the exhaust shop is not too far away.
BlackB-Wald,
Maybe IL do a cat delete but first I start with the resonator.
Thanks!

Did you notice any low-end torque lost with this set up? You wouldn't happen to have video clip of the sound, would you?

All the restriction in the exhaust is in the manifolds. They are tiny under the covers, smaller than 1 exhaust port on the head. Then there's the short piece of pipe on top of the cats.
