Questions about purchasing a CLS55 AMG

Hello!

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on my second Mercedes!

While dropping my car off for service, a 2006 CLS55 caught my eye and as I went towards it I saw that it pretty low miles @22K, expecting the price to be about $50,000 I was astounded by the price at roughly $33 Thousand. I got to test drive and it felt amazing, first AMG ever. So I talked more to the salesman about it and he said nothing is wrong with it just need some service done, which they agreed to cover if I purchase the vehicle.

The only thing is that it does not have warranty, which I can still purchase from the dealership.

So I have to ask you guys if there is anything else I should ask the salesman and also how the reliability and repairs and maintenance cost look like over the next few years?

Thanks for any replies!

Maintenance is key. This is a car that can be as expensive as it is fast. Get the records and with all due respect don't believe a thing the salesman said. You need to see records paying attention to transmission service, oil changes rear lube changes recalls like the gas tank issue. See if they will grow in a warranty or go halfers on one. If the car is as good as he says it is splitting a warranty should be no problem. The book on that car is around 25k. So for the extra 8k he's making he should go halfers on the warranty. And that's not to say that 33 is out of line for a pristine cls55 AMG but look close. It could be the best or worst experience of your life. Good luck

First of all, thank you for your reply!

So first order of business is to demand maintenance records.

Sorry for not understanding you completely, but are you saying that $33 thousand (with 22k miles) is still high for the car?

Could you, if possible I would greatly appreciate it, give any proof towards the $25 Thousand book value? That would be great!

By the way, I did throw around a $30K Figure to see what he would say and he acted like I was crazy

So any help would be great!

Where are you located?

Also, I say if the dealer said they will service, make them record everything they do. Check tires, change trans and diff fluids along with oil and filter. Also air and cabin etc

I believe the price is too high even for low mileage car. You should not pay more than $28K for it and no need Ext warranty. I think with lower mileage car, the price is the key. Try to negotiate as low price as possible. To service this car cost only like $1K in any indy shop. Oil change, air filter, tranny service, radiator and brake fluid change. Sometimes when dealer selling you a car and promise to service it... they just oil change...

I am trying for $29K right now, not getting warranty honestly seems like a bad idea to me.

Depend how much is the warranty. If more than $5k not worth it.
6 years ago when I bought my 06 E55 got ext warranty for 39 months but only use once, engine mount and water pump. Total like $1K but I paid $3K for my ext warranty. Of course, car get older today so more problem will come but if the warranty cost more than $5K not worth it in my opinion. Good luck with purchase !

DO a warranty. Smart Autocare was the cheapest I found and I have already used them once for an alternator replacement ($700) no questions asked. I paid $2700 for 3YR/45,000MI bumper to bumper on my 06 CLS55 AMG. If you want their info I can post it for you. The only reason I bought it is because I bought my car private party, had it inspected and it had a very slight leak in the power steering rack and also very minor leak in one of the valve covers. I am sure it will pay for itself!

I got a Carchex warranty, which was 5 Years and 50,000 More miles

For about $3500 they are pretty highly ranked so that was good, exclusionary coverage it was their highest titanium package.

Thanks

Any reputable warranty is a MUST. In three years you will pay $3,500 to get stuff fixed.

In the last three years I have replaced two window regulators, sunroof repair, two IC pumps, a supercharger clutch, a fuel pump, an oil pump, a keyless entry handle, and other things I don't remember off the top of my head... All of this covered by warranty. The SC clutch part alone was like $1,800. You'll be very happy if you get a warranty and very broke if you don't...

That is nice to know.

I did think I got offered the warranty for a very good price, but I am glad that the company I purchased from is quite Reputable

I took these images with my phone, so if the quality is bad sorry.

I forgot to take pictures the day I picked it up from the dealer, they had it very shiny that day it was crazy.

I do need to clean it very soon though

It is a blast to drive!

Haha probably not yet, since it would probably void CarChex's warranty

Though I really like what I have seen and read about with others modifications to their CLS's

Can really change the look of the car, and make it a lot better

Thanks!
