This Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC Drag Car Is Wild

It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what’s so cool about this car, likely because the whole thing is awesome. This drag car starts with a very unlikely donor in the form of a 450 SLC. You have to wonder about an owner of a car like that (the ideal neighbor), with the vision of making it into a tubbed drag car. The underpinnings are tried and true: a big block Chevy mated to a PowerGlide transmission.

The shell of the car was recently up for sale at a reasonable price of $13,000. That includes everything you need to go fast. A fully-built multi-point cage, Strange front clip, 4-link adjustible rear end for forward momentum, and 9-inch Wilwood brakes to slow everything down. For an extra $12,000, the previously mentioned Shafiroff 540 cubic-inch Chevy big block V8 and built Powerglide transmission were also available with the car.

For anyone asking how much it costs to do 8s in the 1/4 mile, there’s your answer: $25,000. Using a Mercedes might not be the most conventional way to hustle down a drag strip, but it sure is the classiest way.
