Pushing upwards of 650 HP and 700 ft/lbs thanks to a integrated hybrid powertrain, the AMG GT looks to dominate the competition.

Mercedes shocked the world when the released the first generation AMG GT back in 2015. Over time, the car has received substantial refinements, power, and has only gotten better. However, it seems that 2021 is the year for a big change to come. This won’t simply be just another refresh or trim level, but a whole new generation. We obviously are very excited about this news and we have some details to cover in relation to what will stay and what will be changed out. Thanks to an article by Carbuzz, we get to catch up on what’s going on at Affalterbach.

There is speculation that this soon to be release by Mercedes is due to the fact that the cars closest rival, the Porsche 911, has also been very recently redesigned. We will see how competitive the Porsche will be if the power figures of the AMG GT remain true to its release. The sources state that without a doubt the GT will retain the bi-turbo V8 currently powering the German sports car, but in addition to this already potent engine, a hybrid powertrain will be added.

Considering the fact the the current fastest GT, the GT R only makes 577 HP and this new-generation is to due to make around 100 HP more, we think that it’s going to be a pretty ridiculous vehicle. Considering the fact that having a car with 400 HP was pretty benchmark only a decade or so ago, the growth of horsepower seems to not be giving up anytime soon. In addition to this hybrid power system, AMG also plans on adding a variable all-wheel drive system. This will be done to make the fastest possible car in just about any situation.

As we have seen recently, Mercedes is making a big effort to integrate hybrid and electric technology to their latest models. The application in the AMG GT will without a doubt be strictly for performance. In addition, the geniuses in Germany have managed to make a revised chassis for the GT and now the aluminum frame will weigh a substantial 500 pounds less. While we still are unsure of specific release dates or a time period, we should expect to see the 2021 AMG GT around this time next year. That’s something to be excited about!
