Brabus 900

Two-tone paint needs to make a comeback. The Brabus 900 SUV is the perfect evidence for such an argument.

There’s something special about a Brabus. With each car they touch, a visually striking, and lightning quick car emerges. And the Brabus 900 is no different. Based on the GLS63 AMG, this super SUV is very modified from its basic AMG brethren.

Visually, the first thing you’ll notice is the two-tone paint. Common on Maybach models, but more colorful on the Brabus 900. Upper metallic maroon paint is seamlessly integrated with the existing body lines and broken up by old-school striping. In the lower sections, Mercedes black paint is accented by splashes of carbon fiber. Bumper intakes up front are flanked by the lightweight stuff, and the rear diffuser is made of it, too. Black 24 inch rims are enormous, but so is the car. It all works well.

Light colored leather is an interesting contrast to the dark exterior. Naturally, everything that can be covered in leather is. Seatbacks, head liner… you name it, it’s covered in leather. And of course the “B” is emblazoned on every seat headrest, and takes over the focal point of the steering wheel. Mercedes’ own interior ambient lighting set to red makes the interior feel like home.

Most importantly though are engine upgrades. The 4.0 liter V8 is bored out to 4.5, and Brabus’ tuning magic has this GLS 63 churning out 900 horsepower. That’s what you get with bigger displacement and turbos breathing a bit harder. Torque is at an even higher number, at about 922. It doesn’t really matter that the GLS 63 is a beast of a vehicle with that kind of engine. It’s going to be fast. What’s really neat is the red-carbon weave on the engine cover. It has a small plaque that shows an engine dyno. Not only is that great confidence, but that’s just overall cool.

Price? You won’t need to ask. You’ll be cross shopping this and a privately chartered jet. Well not really, but when that’s the competition, things look appealing for the Brabus. With room for 7 friends, it might be the fastest and most effective way to get somewhere right now.
