After much teasing and spy-shooting, Mercedes has officially unveiled 2013 GL class at the New York Autoshow last week. It manages to be even bigger than the outgoing model at 84.3 inches wide and 201.6 inches long. Presumably, “G” in GL stands for ginormous.

It’s available with in three trims, beginning with the 362 hp GL450. Power fiends will have to sate themselves with the 429 hp GL550 until the AMG version is announced. There’s also the GL 350 BlueTEC which packs a 3L turbo diesel that churns out 455lb-ft of torque. That’s perfect for hauling boats, airplanes, or whatever else you could possibly attach to a trailer hitch.

The hauler for the well-heeled will be as cozy and technologically satisfying as it’s smaller brethren. It’s interior is the same level as the top-tier S-Class models, and it comes with all the safety features and fancy electronics that Mercedes could throw at it. If you’re looking to seat seven in a star ship, this is as close as you’re going to get.
