7 Reasons Why You Should Buy an E-Class Wagon Over a Crossover

For unknown reasons, local traditions in the U.S. dictate that a station wagon has no choice but to be shunned. It’s a fashion faux pas, a skin blemish, the shorter, balding, overweight old guy of the automotive spectrum… which is odd, as Europe sees it completely differently. For our U.S. audience, I’ve come up with seven reasons why an E-class wagon is an excellent choice, spurred on from this interesting AutoEvolution article about picking station wagons over crossovers.

1. You get the same space: Arguably, one can argue that An E-class wagon can scoop up just as much cargo as your run-of-the-mill crossover.

2. You still get all-wheel drive: It’s tough to find an E-class without 4matic, as most of them are equipped as such. It’ll do just as good as your crossover in the snow.

3. Novelty rear facing third row: Remember those station wagons that had a rear facing third row seat? Well, a new generation can experience the joy of making faces at the traffic behind you. You can’t put a price on that.

4. It’s fuel efficient: Without having to punch a large hole in the air, it moves more easily, and that leads to better fuel economy.

5. It’s fast as hell: I’f you’re not too concerned with fuel efficiency, you can opt for the E63 AMG station wagon. Crushing egos on the daily by beating other cars with a station wagon? You can’t put a price on that, either.

6. You enter an exclusive brotherhood: There’s not a sub-culture for the pedestrian versions of the E-class wagon, but for the AMG, there surely is.

7. It’s fairly inconspicuous: If you’re the type of person that doesn’t need that much flash in your life, the E-class is fairly tame for a pricey German car.
