Viewers following the Ultimate Factories series being produced by National Geographic will be gratified to learn that the next installment will feature a build of none other than Mercedes-Benz’s luxury supercar, the SLS. Choosing the SLS from the myriad, and deserving, choices would have been an easy task for the producers of the TV segment since the the SLS is the first car designed solely by AMG and is produced in a low volume to retain its exlcusivity. Its Gullwing doors are its most prominent feature and the car is equipped with an 6.3-liter front-mid V8 engine from AMG that produces 563 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. A 7-speed AMG dual-clutch transmission harnesses all this power and drives the rear wheels. This AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT has four different driving modes, those being “C” (Controlled Efficiency), “S” (Sport), “S+” (Sport plus) or “M” (Manual).

The video team from National Geographic will be following a crew of Mercedes engineers and technicians who will build an example of the 197 mile per hour supercar. Viewers will get to see what it takes to mold a strong and light frame that will serve as the foudation for the major components of the car. Viewers will also get to see where a mile of electrical wiring goes into such a car, which, like most modern cars are controlled by computers as much as the driver.
