SLK R172 597x339 Third Gen SLK Debut Moved to Jan 29 at Stuttgart

The new third-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK Class (R172) should have been among the highlights that will take center stage in the upcoming North America International Auto Show (NAIAS), otherwise known as the Detroit Auto Show, to be held early in January next year. However, news out of Mercedes-Benz says the R172 won’t debut at the Motor City but instead will grace the 125 Years of the Automobile ceremony in Stuttgart on January 29, 2011.

The new SLK will be presented at Stuttgart’s Mercedes-Benz Museum as
part of the company’s celebrations for the 125th birthday of the
automobile. While there are already some spoiler shots and some videos
running around the Internet (YouTube, et al), official images straight
from Mercedes-Benz aren’t expected until at least the second week of
January.

At the launch, Mercedes-Benz will showcase the “Edition 1” one-off
variant of the R172. This special event trim is wrapped in a glacial
gray-hued designo matte lacquer finish and with the standard LED daytime
running lights. We’ll let you know right away once more details
surface.

Orders for the SLK R172 is set to start on January 17 next year,
including the SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY model. The top-of-the-class SLK 55
AMG model, which is good for 422 horsepower, will debut in September at
the Frankfurt Motor Show.
