AMG A45 S Drifts its Way Through Goodwood 2019 in UK

By -

Drifting Mercedes’ latest AWD hatchback seems like an absolute riot, and we can’t wait to get our hands on one.

This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed has had no shortage of action. One of the most exciting things on the menu for us this year is the new AMG A45 S hatchback. Thanks to Adam Christodoulou, pro racing driver for AMG, currently racing in an AMG GT3, we are able to get a hot lap in this new aggressive hatch.

This hatch will be offering the most powerful four-cylinder engine ever and it has the looks to match. If you didn’t already hear, this engine makes an insane 416 HP stock in the S model and that’s just the beginning of the S’s upgrades. The front end features multiple canards for downforce and huge grills for efficient cooling. The rear features a large roof-mounted spoiler with quad exhaust tips. The fenders have been extended as well to fit the wider track width of the sporty performance-based model. You can tell this little hatch isn’t playing around.

The A45 S will be fitted with larger 19″ wheels compared to the 18″ fitted on the standard model. Those wheels will be driven by an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with the signature 4Matic+ AWD. However, don’t doubt that the rear-end of the A45 can get rowdy.

The new “Drift Mode”, which comes standard on the S allows the A45 to get fully sideways. In order to access this mode, one must first switch into Race Mode, turn off stability control, and switch the DCT into manual mode. After that, mash the gas and see those rear tires light up with every touch of the gas pedal. Trust us, the A45 S is not lacking in power in any standard.

After watching how much fun a pro racing driver has behind the wheel of this little hatch in the video, you can say that your money’s worth is definitely going into this car without a doubt. Sadly, we won’t be able to purchase a A45 S AMG here in the states, as the A-class is not sold within our borders. Definitely not a good call by the American public to not want cars like this. We will still however, get the chance to experience a similar drive in the upcoming CLA45 S. We can’t wait.
