Mercedes-AMG C63 vs. E43: The $70,000 Question
Mercedes-Benz offers AMGs in all sizes from CLA to GT, but what is the best AMG for your money?
In a perfect world there is a Mercedes-AMG for everyone’s taste. Not everyone wants a brutish, tire-smoking, loud V8 Mercedes. Some want a perfectly tame pussycat of a car that with a nudge transforms into a fast and aggressive cheetah. So, it greatly depends on the daily responsibilities of the car.
Two editors from Car Advice decided to put 2 AMG’s to the test. The first contender is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG C63S. This V8 4.0 liter has 503 hp and 516 ft.-lb of torque. The census is the C63S gives you more power than you need with the attitude to match. So, it may not have all the E-Class’s mood lighting and tablet console, but it does have pure unadulterated power. The editors agreed that the C63s is fun to drive at any speed.
The second car, the E43, is the newest in the AMG family. It is a bit more refined and has all the cool new features. The E43 has 396 hp and 384 ft.-lb of torque. The E43 is far more polite in its presence, with a quieter exhaust and a 3 liter biturbo V6 engine. So, on paper the E43 is slower, but does it deliver the full fat AMG experience. One of the editors remarks, “The E43 is a big car, but as you push it, the car shrinks around you.”

From our view, both are perfect AMGs, in their own right. It is up to the driver’s taste as to whether they prefer. The C63S is the more raw and daring younger sister. The E43 is over the more refined and confident big sister. The best thing about the Mercedes-Benz AMG lineup is there is truly a car for everyone’s driving style.
