AMG E63 Sedan & Wagon Make Rounds at Green Hell in Spy Video

Refreshed high-performance AMG offerings due for a 2021 release, headlights expected to mimic those of the GLE SUV.

Three model years ago, Mercedes-Benz introduced the current version of the E-Class, beginning with the sedan variant before dropping the wagon into the showroom. As it stands, though, this generation has at least one more model year to go before it receives an update for the 2021 model year.

And what will that update look like? We have some idea from Dutch YouTuber and spy videographer, Automotive Mike. Recently, he spent some time at the Nurburgring filming the Mercedes-AMG versions of the 2021 E-Class, the E63 sedan and wagon.

“Mercedes-Benz’s E-Class family is approaching the midway point in its life cycle and a prototype for an updated member has just been spotted,” the YouTube wrote in the video’s description. “The prototype is for the Mercedes-AMG E63 Wagon but similar updates should be bound for other E-Class members. We’ve also spied prototypes for the updated E63 sedan, E-Class sedan, E-Class Coupe and E-Class Wagon, as well as the E-Class All-Terrain soft-roader sold overseas.”

Along with the E63 Wagon, the YouTuber spent a ton of time following the E63 Sedan around the ‘Ring. The sedan gave it all it got on the track, making rooster tails of dirt while roaring through the corners, its tires squealing under pressure.

“The cars will be given a substantial makeover,” the YouTuber states, “with the headlights taking on a design similar to the units found on the latest GLE SUV. This should provide further differentiation between the E-Class family and smaller C-Class, which the current E-Class closely resembles.”

While he doesn’t spend too much time on the headlights in this video, the YouTuber gives his viewers plenty of time to gaze upon the E63’s backside as the sedan version drives away from the Green Hell. He says the tail lights will also be updated, while the E63 will receive a more aggressive grill in place of the standard E-Class version.

Under the hood of the E63, the YouTuber expects it’ll still have a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8, though it could have a mild hybrid system aboard. Whatever it will have, we’ll know soon enough, as the updated AMG will arrive between now and early 2020.
