Dubbed the GT 73, this hard-hitting AMG comes for Porsche with a rear-mounted electric motor complementing the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.

If there’s anything AMG isn’t going to stand for, it’s a competitor one-upping their models. After the GT 63 S set the fastest time for an executive car on the Nurburgring at 7:30.109 in 2018, Porsche turned up this August with the Panamera Turbo. Along the full 13-mile circuit, the humpty-dumptymobile eked out a time of 7:29.81, per Road & Track.

AMG’s not going out like that. According to Carscoops, Affalterbach is ready to reclaim the ‘Ring with its most powerful GT yet, the GT 73.

Caught testing on the ‘Ring by YouTube channel Stateside Super Cars, the GT 73 comes with a big surprise out back: an electric motor. AMG’s latest is a plug-in hybrid, anchored up front with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Total output is expected to be above 800 horsepower, more than enough to land a TKO on every Panamera Porsche makes.

The AMG GT 73 could also best one of its own on the ‘Ring. The current GT 63 S +4MATIC makes 630 horsepower to the rear, a little over the Panamera Turbo S’s 621. Meanwhile, the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid comes with 670 horses, while a facelift is rumored to pump up the power to over 750 horses. AMG’s certainly stepping up the game again in comparison.

As for how quickly it can begin its run, the GT 63 S can leave the line to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds. Top speed is 195 mph on a long enough straight. With all of the instant torque the electric motor could deliver, the neck-snapping shove could place the GT 73 at or just under three seconds. As for a top speed, around 200 mph might just be possible for the big AMG four-door.

According to Carscoops, the AMG 73 is expected to arrive in showrooms by the end of 2020. Price of admission is not yet known, though it’s likely to be above the base MSRP of the AMG 63 S, which starts at $161,200 in the United States. It’s certainly going to be the fastest, greenest way to the office, for sure. We can’t wait to see what this big AMG can do around the ‘Ring, though.
