AMG GT-R Rescued in the Snow by a 6×6 G63

By -

You needn’t worry about your AMG supercar getting stuck in the snow, well, at least with friends like this.

This video of a Mercedes-Benz AMG GT-R getting stuck in the snow, and eventually being rescued by a G63 with a 6×6 upgrade comes to us from the Shmee150 YouTube Channel. While Shmee is certainly a divisive personality, he certainly does impress us with the cars he has access to. Oh, and it helps that he has one hell of a personal fleet of supercars, to boot. And he certainly isn’t afraid to take those toys and go play in the heavy snow, either. But when one of them gets stuck, he calls a friend with an AMG SUV that is just as impressive as the GT-R.

Meet Shmee

We don’t know who Shmee (real name Tim Burton) is, but he has an incredible collection of vehicles. This includes the McLaren 675LT Spider, an Aston Martin Vantage GT8, a Ferrari FF, a Mercedes-AMG GT R, a Ford Focus RS and a Porsche 991.2 GT3. He recently got some snow at his home in Italy, so he took to the street in his AMG GT-R for some slippery fun.

Before heading out with the Mercedes, he gets all artsy, talking about the interesting ways that the snow lays on his GT-R, the F12 tdF and the Lusso. A true connoisseur if there ever was one. Once he has appreciated Mother Nature’s wintery fury, he cleans off the Benz and hits the road.

Cruising in the AMG GT-R

Once Shmee gets onto the road with the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT-T, he talks about how the different drive modes are better or worse with the slick roads. It should be noted that he wisely has snow tires, so that would make a big difference. However, even with the proper tires, he shows us how easily the back end steps out with a little throttle.

Shmee Driving the AMG GT-R

About seven minutes into the video, the host has made his way from city streets that were cleared for the most part to country roads, covered with snow. At first he is having a good time, but then it all goes south.

AMG GT-R Stuck in Snow

He decides to turn around in an area where the snow had mostly been cleared, but it hadn’t been cleared well enough for the rear-wheel drive Benz to get in and out safely. The car gets stuck and even with some passers-by stopping to lend a hand, they cannot get the German sports car back onto the road. At first, the host of this video expects that a friend with an Audi A4 is going to bring a rope to pull out the AMG, but it gets much better than that. It makes far more sense to tow one AMG with another, so, naturally, the wicked 6×6 G63 arrives.

Playing in the deep snow

Once the AMG GT-R was pulled back onto the road, Shmee wisely drove to an unplowed parking lot to play in the deep snow.

G63 Pulls GT-R

Of course, he gets stuck again. So, this time they employ a Fiat Panda to see if it will pull out the Benz. The Panda is able to pull the GT-R to freedom, and the clunky little Fiat celebrates with some four-wheel drifting in the snow.

Finally, once the Mercedes sports car is able to get out of the parking lot, the host heads back to some better-cleared roads for a little spirited driving in the snowy conditions.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
