Brabus 650 S63 AMG Makes Wonderful Turbo V8 Music

By -

There’s something about the almighty sound of the twin turbo V8 twin Brabus that gets us weak in the knees.

It’s always kind of interesting to see a character play something outside of their usual role, and thats why the Brabus 650 in the above video from YouTuber Gumbal is such a curiosity. Add to that a convertible top and you have whats essentially a luxury yacht ready to play games with speed boats. As you can tell by the Brabus name, horsepower is increased, but it’s the exhaust which first makes you take notice. Dirty noises followed by the hushed spooling of a turbo are the new sounds of speed, and this tuned S63 provides all the audio excitement you could ask for.

In retrospect, it’s exactly how Bodo Buschmann, the late founder of Brabus would have built a new S-class convertible. He founded the company based on the principal of increased refinement and increased speed, rather than an increase in aesthetic appeal. This subtle Brabus 650 encompasses all of those aspects. Subtle when it needs to be, and devastatingly fast the rest of the time.

Still, taking a big barge to the strip faces challenges that simply can’t be overcome. But it is fun, so why not? Facing two rivals as opposite as can be, this Brabus 650 races a Porsche 911 Turbo, and a Volkswagen Scirocco.

We have to say that the races are a bit odd. First, the Porsche’s brake lights can be seen a hundred or so feet after the start line. Did the driver smash the brakes instead of the clutch? It’s possible, but the Porsche re-fills its turbocharged lungs and rockets away.

The Volkswagen has a problem of a completely different kind – it appears the engine can’t decide whether or not it actually wants to work. Despite the raspy car appearing to be fast, the engine mishap handed an easy win to the Benz.
